Trevor, quick question.

Hi. I always read your posts. They are informative & at times thought provoking. I just wanted to know if you actually work out to any Cathe workouts. You sound like you're a gym person to me. Just curious.

Hey Marla,
I workout mostly in the gym and I switch some of Cathe's step tapes in and out for my cardio. Particularly in the winter or whenever I need a change of pace.
I don't use her videos for weight training. There's just no way that I have enough weight/equipment at home to get the burn in my muscles or the bulking I am looking to get. I also have my own weight training theories that I like to put to practice on myself and the gym is the only place I can do that.
Lastly, I imagine I'd go nuts if I only did workouts by myself to a video. I like meeting people who are exercise minded and I have quite a few friends at the club. I get fresh ideas on many different topics, as well as exercise, there as well. Just my feelings on it though.

Hey, Trevor. Thanks for replying. I too think I'll probably start going to the gym one day a week to do legs heavy. I don't have a spotter at home to help with a heavier barbell for squats & I'm hesitant to do them alone. But unlike you, I love doing my workouts by myself. I see people in & out: demanding, pushy, needy etc., all day 40 hours a week. The last thing I want to do is go to a crowded gym to fight for a sweaty machine or to politely avoid small talk that will slow down my workout or to get "tips" from men that have no clue what my goals are or about my experience. However, I've maintained a gym membership $15/mo since 1997 & have not used it since 2001 but want to keep my options open.


I know this letter sounds bitter or mean. I promise you I'm really not.:D

Hey Marla!

I love working out alone, too, and let my gym membership expire because of it. But, also like you, I decided to rejoin the gym to work heavy legs. I go once a week, do my leg workout and leave. It is actually kind of fun to get out "among the masses" once a week, I have found.

I was also amazed when I, just for kicks, tried out a few upper-body machines I used to do regularly before I knew Cathe and guess what? I had to add plates! And I actually could do that ab thing where you brace your forearms on the pads and swing your legs out in front of you? I used to only be able to do it (before Cathe) with bent knees. Not any more! Anyway, it was encouraging to see how I've improved.

But I would not want to face that place 3 to 5 days a week. I love my one-on-one time with Cathe in my basement.

Hey Trev,

I'm just here to harass you...I'm still waiting to see pictures of the skinny guy that is no longer skinny! You've talked about adding weight & I want to see proof! Tell your wife I'm cyber-stalking, I don't care!

Well another raeson I'll go is 'cause DH wants me to go with him. I have always told him why should I go to the gym when Cathe is my personal trainer. She knows just the right cues at the right time. But alas, I have to give in for the heavy legs I can do at the gym.

I'll get some together when I have more time between Christmas and New Year's. I have to take them myself so give me some time.
Not sure if you ever saw pics I took a few years back. I was probably 165-168 then. I am holding 190-195 at present.
I'll email them to you. Of course, you owe me some then! ;)
