Transferring old VHS tapes to DVD

I know I have seen a post somewhere about this before where people have copied their old Cathe VHS tapes to DVD. I am thinking of buying a recordable DVD player so that I can do this. My concern is whether there is a copyright on the VHS tapes not allowing you to record them. Has anyone ever run into this problem? I would hate to buy the DVD player and then find I can't copy my old tapes to a DVD.

I've started doing this since I got a DVD recorder for Xmas. Some of my VHS are blocked from dubbing and others are not. I think it is just a matter of whether the producers "added" this to their tapes when making them.

It's been very easy so far for the ones that worked. I also intend to hook the recorder up to my cable to use it for copying t.v. shows instead of the vcr.

You shouldn't have any problems with copyright issues. I only have four of Cathe's dvds right now and the rest I taped off of fit tv, recently I started looking up the exercises for the dvds I don't have and making my own dvds by combining workouts. For example I insert exercises from my 4ds dvd into slow and heavy from fit tv. I would think if the dvds can be transferred then the vhs should work also. Hope this helps.
