training for hockey player

Hi Cathe,

I REALLY enjoy your program, I am a big fan and promote it everywhere. It's really well done and professional. My son plays hockey and I would like him to use your program. I bought a while ago a Off-Ice training DVD but it is not well done like yours.

What kind of training would you recommend for him to develop strenght, agility, increase its power in his skating? .

I have several DVDs: To the Max, Cross fire, Xtrain series, Booth Camp, Slide and Glide.

Thanks

Do you recommend another DVD more specific to his need?

Dany

Hi Dany! I love that you are looking out for your son :)

The workouts you listed are all fine because they will work on his core, speed, agility and strength with compound movements, unilateral movements, and core based moves. The only addition I would add would be AB Circuits because of the variety of core training he will get. This DVD includes: Med ball abs, stability ball abs, weights and plates, no equipment abs and yes....even the yoga-based and pilates-based abs on this DVD will be awesome for him as plank work is essential for any athlete (so don't let him skip that thinking its for girls ;)...He'll be humbled )

Supercuts and Total Body Trisets would also be good for him but not necessary if you don't have the ability to purchase them at this time.

Good luck to him!

In addition to what you already own, and Ab Circuits, I would like to suggest Drill Max and the 4-Day Split series. Drill Max includes 6 cycles with drill-based cardio components, leg weighted work and upper body weighted work. The cardio cycles include several very helpful plyometric drills and a couple of agility fast-foot drills for the legs that are very beneficial to hockey players. 4-Day Split's Boot Camp workout also has several fast-paced plyometric and fast-foot drills that again are great for hockey training. Both of these workouts incorporate a step bench which, if at all possible, your son perform as demonstrated rather than omitting the step.

LOL I was going to mention 4DS Bootcamp but realized it couldn't be purchased alone. Didn't want your son to see the step routines and get put off....the Kickbox and Bootcamp segments along with the weight training on this DVD would be great.

But I realize everyone has a budget so no need to feel you have to have all of these workouts at once.

Happy Training!

Mix and match

Hi Cathe,

I have a lot of your DVD's and enjoy the variety of each of them. I have also the Xtrain sDVD as well. I would like to keep working on your 90 day undulating workout program because I can really see the benefit of it. I would also like to change sometimes and work on the DVDs I have (Slide and glide, Cross Fire, To the Max, Booth Camp, Athletic training, 4DS.) What is the pattern in your weekly training because I don't want to overwork specific part of my body and risk an injury. I don't want to stop, I enjoy it too much!!!! :D

Thanks
