Tracey Staehle

I agree with Jillybean and Angela. This is just my opinion and experience, but my heart rate is actually higher when I do complex choreo as opposed to basic choreo. I think that it is because I find basic choreo so freaking boring and I just end up plodding through it. With complex choreo, once I learn it I actually put a ton of energy into it and have a blast and burn a ton of calories (and yes, way more than with basic choreo). To each his own though.

Jen, you have to go with your gut. Watch the clips of Step Sweatfest or perhaps wait for reviews. I know my friend Annette (Aquajock) HATES complex choreography, which is why I would never recommend Tracey's step for her (though I do think she'd love Tracey's new kickboxing workout.)

And yes, I'm 'ponytail.' I'll be appearing in Sculpt Sweatfest. I get no kickbacks or money for endorsing Tracey's product, I just happen to like her workouts. And I was just stating a preference - that I happen to think you can find intensity in a complex workout. But like I said, you have to go with what feels right for you. Like I, for one, know I wouldn't like Patrick Godeau (sp?) or Rob Glick. But that's just me.

That may be true, and it's always a crap shoot when an instructor leaves her comfort zone, but no one forced her to do it. She made the choice on her own to ask for input from people who were interested in her workouts, and athletic/non-complex step (or something similar) was one of the options she herself put on the poll. She also starting posting about how the less-complex stuff she was coming up with was really fun, and that her class liked it, so she seemed to be getting into it, and stretching herself a bit.

Since she already put out a complex choreo step workout, and the majority of people who voted wanted the athletic, it seems a shame that she chose to cut one of those sections of the workout and keep the complex stuff. So now, people who like complex stuff have a 40 minute workout (I'm assuming the 30 minutes doesn't include warm-up or cooldown) and those who like more straight-forward stuff have a 40 minute workout. For me, that's not enough to warrent buying theh DVD.

I preordered the Sculpt DVD. I'm so excited to see my friend Jillybean in a workout video!!! I've only done Tracey's High Intensity Step Mix once. I liked it, I just have to get use to some of her moves.

Poor you, it's not like there aren't a ton of workouts with basic, boring choreography for you to choose from.

What a very intelligent and mature response.

It's rather an insult to Tracey as well, assuming that her non-complex choreo would be 'boring.'

And you accuse others, who are merely voicing their opinions, of being rude?

I am one who absolutlely loves the complex step workouts. I need the mental and physical challenge of learning them. Tracey's HISM is one of my favorites. It definitely gets my heart rate up with her intervals. I know there were a couple of the sections that were harder to get, but now that I have it I love it.

But I must add, I also like the more basic step. Even one of Cathe's basic low impact workouts I use on a day that I feel I don't have all the energy to put into a more intense workout. So, I do purchase both kinds. That being said, I cannot do Gin MIller, I have tried so many of hers and they are so low key and she talks so much I feel I do not get a good workout.

Tracey's Core workout is the best core workout I have ever done. This workout is one that I feel while I am doing it - I really feel like I am working my core to the max with this one.

As to Tracey changing her planned workouts, well, maybe she will learn not to say what she will do time wise until it is all finished. Of course she wants to please everyone, but she will never be able to do that.

I really enjoy her personality, her high energy, she is a great instructor. I have pre-ordered all of her new DVD's. I plan to order any of the others she will put out.

Maybe she can put the athletic step she had planned to use with the other 30 minute sculpt she planned to use but didn't together in the next month for all the people who would like the athletic step.

She has some great ideas for all of her premixes. Jillybean is helping her put them together. I saw some of the ideas on her website. One of them was to put the KB combos at a slower beat, then another would be to do them at a faster beat. How awesome is that. I think with Jillybean helping her with some of these ideas we will have some of the best premixes!

No, I'm not accusing, going to someone's website to tell them how much you hate their clothing IS rude. I wasn't referring to Tracy's choreography. What you are asking for is more of the same old, same old and you are the one (I'm sure you will correct me if I'm wrong) who said something about why can't Cathe come up with something different with her step workouts. Geesh, you always have something to gripe about regarding workouts and you replay it over and over in thread after thread. Now that I have high speed internet, I'm responding a lot more (one of these days, I hope to go back to ignoring you). But you ARE right, I shouldn't meet rudeness with more rudeness yet, here I go.

Hmm, well, I think that what happens on other forums really needs to stay there. (I know it's hard. I take issue with people bashing Cathe and then coming here... there are many of them.)

So, Angela. :) Let's breathe for a minute. Oooooohhhhhhhmmmmmm. :) (See, I AM getting something out of that yoga practice, lol.)

Now, back to the choreography. I hope you do not think I was suggesting that everyone do "basic, same old, same old," because I was not. I love really intense choreography (Cathe, some Christi, Kelly Coffey-Meyer come to mind), I just think some people are so new to the home-fitness market that they may be trying too hard to differentiate themselves by having you do everything but basically pivot off the ceiling. (Joke alert! Joke alert!) And maybe it's a good strategy since it certainly seems to generate a lot of press for certain instructors, so who knows? But I do think it's important to recognize that opinions are going to fall on both sides of the aisle, and that has to be ok. Isn't that sort of the point of all these discussion boards? :7

ETA - Tracey took the pants comments in really good humor, so I'm not sure why some people are so offended. (I know, I know, cross-talk, but I was curious.)

Finally... my last bit of cross-talk! Jillybean, I was really interested in reading your comments about these workouts and the potential premixes, so I'm definitely keeping an eye on this set! My credit card thanks you. :)

I didn't know that Jillybean was so involved with Tracey's sweatfest series! Amazing news. Congrats to Jillybean! You go girl!!!

Thanks Jillybean! That is really awesome that you are in the Scult Sweatfest! I think me & Aquajock prob have the same preference w/ choreography so if you would recommend the new kickboxing to her then I would say that I'd like it too. I think I will order it on the presale & wait for the others. I enjoy kickboxing a lot but like to mix it up as much as possible-right now I basically use KPC and the Powerstrike 1 & 2 the most so this will be nice to add to my rotation. Thanks again for your opinion, it amazes me how "upset" some people get over things like w/o... I like to try to do my research before I buy so I don't end up with a w/o I don't like but sh*t happens and when it does I simply give it to someone who will use it, not the end of the world! ;)

I'm another that love's hard choreo. I got Body Max 2 and LIC and did all the step portions straight through because I'm so used to the choreo. I still love the DVD's but wish I had more to look forward to in them. That's why I can't wait for the new Advanced Step Cathe is putting out in the next batch. I basically learned HISM quickly too, until the second step routine, but I love that. I'm happy with the DVD's as is and I'm preordering. I think there are quite a few of us that like complex choreo, we just may not be as vocal as some of the others :+
