The classic rock station in Toronto had their Top 500 Classic Rock Songs of All-Time on over the weekend. It was interesting listening. As you can well imagine, the Stones and Zeppelin dominated. This was their top 10 (it was done by listener voting):

10 Satisfaction - The Rolling Stones
9 Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen
8 Layla - Eric Clapton
7 Whole Lotta Love - Led Zeppelin
6 You Shook Me All Night Long - AC/DC
5 Hotel California - The Eagles
4 Sympathy for the Devil - The Rolling Stones
3 Comfortably Numb - Pink Floyd
2 Stairway to Heaven - Led Zeppelin
1 Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band/A Day in the Life - The Beatles

What do you think? Do you agree? Any you think should have made top 10?

I definitely agree with Bohemian Rhapsody, Layla and Stairway to Heaven. I don't agree about Hotel California.

HELLLOOOOOOO....

****FREEBIRD!!****

( Just saw Lynryd Skynyrd last weekend)

Um, Robin, I love ya girl, but um, no... (XXXOOO)

I agree with the list. I would have liked to have seen some Aerosmith on there, though. :)

Erica

ETA - I agree about Freebird!!

<snore....>
All of these bands have many songs in their catalogs soooo much better than those on the list. Of course, these are the tunes that get the radio play...
BTW, one of my favorite Pink Floyd records is Ummagumma ;-)

I'd put Revolution (Beatles) on the list and perhaps a Blondie song (maybe Call Me) just to represent girl rockers out there!

That's a pretty solid list, although I agree FreeBird should have made the top 10.

Just out of curiosity, where did my main man, Meat Loaf come out? Did "Paradise by the Dashboard Light" or "Two out of Three Ain't Bad" make it in the top 50?

Take care, Lynn M.

Lynn,

I agree about Meatloaf. I never seem to tire of listening to him. I saw him in concert last year and he was awesome. It was a small theater so we were up real close. His daughter also performed with him.

Hey what about "Panama" by Van Halen? :) Actually, "Another Brick in the Wall" by Floyd, along with "Young Lust" shoulda made it, but then again, I am a total Pink Floyd fan.I love all their stuff, but you really have to be in the mood to listen I think.

I prefer some of the Stones lesser known songs, "Heaven" off the "Start Me Up" album is terrific. I like "Miss You" as well.

I do agree with Eric Clapton, and Queen though. Hotel California is just okay, sorry to say, I am not a fan of that particular song. 'Cashmere" by Zeppelin is my favorite song all-time rock song.

Oh, and one more great song "Leah" by Donny Iris. I love this song!:7

Heart, too!

I can't believe I was not the first to say "What???!! No Allman Bros???" Those who know me must be shocked!

Satisfaction should have been #1 all the way. I've loved that song since I was about 5.

Other than that, well... let's just say my taste in music differs. :p

I think Stairway to Heaven should be #1 not the Beatles. I like the Beatles but Stairway to Heaven is about as classic as you can get. Also agree that American Pie should be in the top 10

Hey, Jimmy can rock with the best of them. He can also croon or yodel. And Hotel California is the best song ever. End of discussion.

I'm surprised the Doors weren't up there...other than that it's a pretty solid list. I lurve me some Pink Floyd so I could have made a top 10 with just their songs!
