Top Chef finale--what did you think?

I was just heartbroken for Karla. I really enjoyed Casey in the last season, but I was kinda bummed she messed things up for poor Karla. I think Karla is my very favorite cheftestant so far. She's the type of chick I'd like to be friends with. What she said at the end of the show pretty much said it all about her personality. Something about how "I wanted to show people a new way to compete. I tried to compete w/love." I burst into tears. Crap, it still makes me a little weepy. She is just the sweetest thing ever!

I'm glad Stefan didn't win, but I really didn't like him or Hosea either way. OTOH, Stefan did show some heart w/Karla. I was starting to think he was born without one. ;)

Damn that souffle!

Hosea won only because Carla & Stefan messed up. When Carla was good, those judges were wowed a lot more than with any of the other chefs. She is the only one of the contestants whose food I would seek out. Fortunately, she's close to me in DC. Unfortunately, hers is a catering business. http://www.alchemycaterers.com/

When Carla opens a restaurant in DC (which I hope is soon), I'm there.

I too was really sad for Karla. I think Casey just tried to steer Karla to do things she wasnt comfortable to do - but at the same time Karla shouldnt have let her do the meat that way - something she had never tried before. So Karla is really at fault for that. I really did enjoy watching her.

I am glad Stephan didnt win - but like you - wasnt a huge Hosea fan either. It was a good season though!

I was really bummed because I had started watching it Wednesday night and feel asleep at the beginning - THEN I just HAPPENED to wake up RIGHT at the end when Hosea was talking about his win!!!!!! Of all the places to wake up!!! Grrrrr.... so I was irked that I didnt get to watch and have the suspense.... So watching yesterday on the DVR was just not the same...

Don't worry, they replay it ALL the time. I saw it Wednesday, but DH didn't, so he caught it last night at 8:00. It was all I could do to not tell him. I can't believe I watched the last part again. Pretty painful. Poor Carla. But, you're right, as much as I would like to blame Casey, Carla should have followed her own heart and instincts.

I know--Karla had the very same problem w/other challenges too when she had to work in a group. I think the issue is her niceness. Not that she doesn't have a backbone, but it seems like in the interest of peace she'd go along w/other's plans & plates, even when she thought it wasn't the best thing to do.

Poor Anne! Even if I'm awake at the start of a show I want to see, I record it & watch it the next day for the very reason you posted!

I knew I would probably fall asleep and had my TV on the sleep timer and it was recording on the DVR - but it was for more than an hour - so waking up RIGHT at the VERY end was SO dissappointing... Oh well... :)

I couldn't agree more. I was so upset when Carla went along with Casey's ideas, just like on the other group challenges. She never got to shine and fared the worst in those challenges. I'd had a bad feeling from the start when they were planning the menu in the kitchen, and sure enough, not following her own instincts was poor Carla's downfall.

I also was surprised at how kind Stefan was when Carla realized that she blew it, it made him seem a lot kinder than he has this whole season. I'm really glad Stefan didn't win, in the end, but I'm not really glad that Hosea won, either. Carla's still the best!

I too wanted Karla win. And I think she would of if she cooked her food the way she wanted to without the influence of someone else and do something she had never done before for the finale. She has such a great personality and spirit.

I was glad Stefan didn't win but I wasn't a Hosea fan either.

I wanted Fabio to win. He was so funny.
