Toot toot!

I did it! I went for a three and a half mile run this morning and it was wonderful!

I saw the orthopedist foot specialist, hoping for a miracle, and he told me I had high arched, unstable! LOL! So I am cautiously on the road again in spite of them. I laid out my running gear last night and awoke to a thuderstorm. I geared up anyway and waited for a lull and off I went. I have always loved to run in the rain. It was nothing sepectacular but I had a smile on the whole time and it felt as natural as breathing! I feel happy!

Toot Toot! LOL!

Bobbi!! That is so very AWESOME! I know that feeling as my achilles is much better and I am running now 3 days a week pain free! And yes...you go girl...:7 ...Carole

That's fantastic, Bobbi! I know that you've missed your running and I'm so happy to hear that you have "confident feet" again! Maybe you made them happy with all that yoga! Alexis

Forgot to add that I'm delighted your subject meant you were tooting your own horn and not having problems with gas! ROLF Alexis

Yay, Carole! Achilles tendonitiis is very painful, if memory serves. It was one of my first over-use injuries. These days I don't overuse anything! I am hoping for two days per week to start and keeping mileage low until I know what to expect. My bad foot is my better foot and my good foot is my bad foot now. LOL!

I am going to go gently into this but I feel pretty delighted right now. I have learned to listen to the bod and will continue to do so and just see what happens.

And my sister has talked me into running the Race for the Cure. I had mixed feelings about doing it non-competively but pooh on that! It's a great cause and lots of fun besides! There's a wonderful expo and lots of information and freebies, so here I go! http://www.handykult.de/plaudersmilies.de/outtahere.gif

I was lucky as my tendonitis never got real bad, I cut my mileage back before it did. But it has taken 5 months for it to subside ( I just love the age thing!) Yes, go gently..I kept my running at just 2 days a week. I had quit for 3 weeks but the muscle pain when I ran after that was too much. I got to 3 days 2 weeks ago and am now following the 10-15% rule for weekly mileage increases.

I think the Race for the Cure would be a great run. I say alot that I won't run competitively....ha,ha,ha,....you do seemed to get sucked into competing. I love Expos too. I might just stick to trail runs for awhile as they are easier on the bod...I am so happy for you Bobbi...:) :D :7 ...Carole

If I can get in two days and a moderate increase in mileage, I'll be pleased. Initially, my doc gave me the green light for running but my fitness level had plummeted to such an extent that I did not want to get out there and struggle with running. By the time my level improved, my right foot started hurting and it was fear that stopped me. Those long months of limping and pain, I shudder at the thought! I am going to call my podiatrist and look into physical therapy this week.

I had a pedicure yesterday and the young lady who did it complimented me on my soft feet! As soon as I am on my feet, it's shoes, socks and more importantly, orthotics, for me! Except for yoga. That's when I admire my brightly painted toenails. LOL!

Yesterday, I'd planned to go out for three miles but went three and a half to stay on dirt. I love trail running, even before all the foot trouble.

I know, non-competitvie running, what's that? My sister still races and I know she's bummed because I don't even like to go out anymore but racing isn't really racing unless you have a shot at a medal or a PR in my humble opinion! The Race for the Cure charges an extra $5.00 for timed running(racing)! I am signing up for the non-competive run and I'll have to content myself with getting a new battery for my running watch which has been out of commission for a very long time! :)

Wow that was really good for just getting back into it...Does this mean that I don't have to run for you anymore????????????
Lori:)

RE: Also...

Yay Bobbi!!!! I know how much you love running and I'm so glad that you are able to do it again so far pain free!!!

You've inspired me to start running again (starting off slowly of course and listening to my feet and legs!). Like you, I've always loved running and included it in my rotations at least 2 or 3 times a week until last summer when I too got PF. I went through 3 months of PT, new orthodics, lots of rest and then yoga, weight training and the recumbant bike (I hate the bike...I would get so bored!!!). Within the last 2 months, I've added step back into my routine (with lots of foot and calf stretching!!) and I am feeling great (no pain) with that. Now that the weather is getting better here in Indianapolis, running is calling my name!

Wish me luck with my "new beginning" and I wish you continuing luck Bobbi!

Becky

Bobbie,

That is great! I am happy for you!!! :7

Good luck with the runs (competitive or not) they are a lot of fun.

I plan on doing a St. Patty's 5 K on Wednesday. Just hoping for a PR..

See you on the trails.... ;)

Barbara, Debbie, Becky, Lori, Beverly, Clare and Susan, thank you for your words of encouragement! Becky, we can rejoin the ranks together. :) Lori, I guess you are off the hook and how can I ever thank you for all those miles? LOL! I am very happy about those 3 and a half miles and had very sore hamstrings yesterday to show for them.

I keep hearing James Brown singing, "I feel good!". LOL! I have discovered one of the beautiful things (and there are so many!) about being forty-one and having such a variety of options, is I know how to err on the side of caution. Emphasizing strength over cardio has been so good and I would never have discovered that but for my stinky feet! I am going out again tomorrow after my standing date with my son's kindergarten class. I'll be the one grinning like a dork, I am sure!

Today it's Muscle Endurance and cleaning! My husband went off to visit his parents in Florida. His dad's 91 and they needed him. I have been a slacker since Thursday. He'll never know that by the time I pick him up tomorrow at 11:00 PM!

I am looking forward to the arrival of the new workouts and when Cathe announces her new series, I hope we can talk her into a low impact/high intensity workout. I have started a whole new phase in working out and it involves minimal impact. And I must say, I am so blessed to have Cathe and her awesome workouts. If I can sneak in a few miles, it's all goood! :)
