Too Much Stepping?

Please forgive me if this question was addressed before, but can one do too much stepping? In most of Cathe's videos she uses the step.Do most of you just do the step all the time? What about bulking up the thighs?I've heard too much step can do this and also cause shin splints. Is it true?

You absolutely can do too much stepping. Crosstraining with different types of exercise is a great way to reduce your chances of an overuse injury from doing too much of one thing. Strength training, walking, bicycling, kickboxing or running might round you out nicely!

I was doing step all through the winter monthes and I would only mix it up alittle bit during the summer time. When I would run and ride bike.
I don't think that it bulks up the thighs to much.If anything mine have gotten slimmer. But I do find that I have big calves now and I never did.In my opnion,I think the step caused them to get bigger.I would imagine that to much of anything isn't good for you and you need to mix it up a little bit for your own sake.

Hi! Yep, you can step too much, and get overuse injuries. I don't know about the bulking up of the thighs--I'm sure that would depend on your body type.
If you just love step and would miss doing it, you could try just removing the step and doing a tape on the floor. (I know, I know, I say this all the time and I'm sure people are tired of hearing it from me!) You can tape a rectangle down to help orientate yourself, although without it you can really expand your range fo motion. I know I have done my knees a world of good by only using my step once or twice a week. I'm still doing the tapes, just not using the actual step.
Have fun!

I agree with the posts above that yes, you can have too much stepping. It is so important that we all crosstrain by mixing step tapes with floor work and strength and especially good ol' cardio like running or biking or spinning.
I believe Cathe has said that she runs and does other types of exercise every week.
I'm an endomorph and stepping 3x's a week over the winter really pumped up my leg muscles! So I've slimmed them back down by running more (3 x's a week) and doing Cathe step tapes maybe once a week, and strength twice.
