Today's Sizes...WTH?!?! A ZERO?!?!

>I know what you mean. I walk around in my size 4 suits and I
>see plenty of women who are much smaller than me. I would
>love to walk up to them and ask them what size they buy. The
>way I see it, if I'm a 4, there must be women walking around
>who need a -2 or -4. But I've never seen those sizes, so what
>the heck do they wear???? I can't figure it out.

Nancy, my massage therapist is a very petite woman. She is under 5 foot, and very small boned. She told me she buys all her clothing in the girls section. Since they are now trying to dress 10 year olds like they are 18, it works.

Any clothes I had purchased for this past fall/winter season were a size 4 which seemed a bit on the far-fetched side to me to begin with until a few days ago I went shopping in Old Navy and had to buy a size 2 in everything!!!

I am not a 2 OR a 4 in the sizes I grew up with! I'm probably a solid size 6! I can not believe how they've messed with the sizing. There was always disparity between manufacturers but since they've turned to this supposed "vanity sizing" it's gotten insane!

I'm a muscular 5'3" and 125-130#. Does that sound like a (realistic) size 2-4 to you!?!?! I think not!!! I have a nice shape but I am just NOT that small!

I buy a lot of stuff at Cache and find that their sizing is pretty consistant. I know that I can walk in and buy a pair of jeans in their size zero and it will fit.

I'm not sure why anyone would be upset that they are a size zero. You are not your size, whether it's a zero or a 20. I wear what fits and don't give a second thought to the number printed on the tag inside the clothing.

I haven't ever really thought much about the size #. 0,2,10,20 . . . is just a number on a tag that hopefully gets us into the ballpark of what will fit. No matter what, I know that I will have to grab multiples of the same item in different sizes and try them on. It's a pain but I suppose there are worse things.:) I will say that when I do find something that fits well (especially pants/bottoms) I buy them in every color and extras!!

I think we should just all wear barrels. One hole fits all.

size 12 here sister, believe its great on this end :D well if yesterdays 6s or now 4s then my today's 12 must be a 9 :p i have a sister who is naturally thin, fits in size 0 sometimes kids 14. but personally i don't ALWAYS envy it. sometimes i do wheni can't find a cool pair of jeans that fit well but all in her size. but most of them time i am just thankful for the curves and the big butt. like gin miller said in one workout "if you are going to have a big butt, have a great big butt" and i sure do :)

I guess that's what they're all doing, dorothy. I have been a solid size 8 petite most of my life, and my wedding gown I bought 6 years ago was a size 8, but now I'm a solid size 4 in Dana Buchman, although I'm exactly the same size as I was at my wedding. Strange stuff.

I hear ya on the size thing. Back when I was a teenager in the 80's, I was a size 7/8. Now I fit into anywhere from 0 to 4. I know I am not smaller than when I was a teenager!!!! I hope they don't start doing this with shoes; that would really screw me up!!

Wow! I will stick with the ADA's guidelines:

"Normal fasting blood glucose is below 100 mg/dl. A person with pre-diabetes has a fasting blood glucose level between 100 and 125 mg/dl. If the blood glucose level rises to 126 mg/dl or above, a person has diabetes."

Regarding Cache' (I almost wrote Cathe there) I find almost no difference in their silk blend tops - I can wear a Small or and XS - probably because they are so stretchy.

Cache' Dresses are pretty consistent in sizing.

But to me, their jeans are odd. I can wear a 0 or a up to a 4 in some of them.

The lady at the Cache' in Las Vegas told me that the reason Cache's sizing is not always consistent is because they use different manufacturers in different countries.

But perhaps is is ME who is always morphiing between sizes.

By the way, have you seen the Cache' luxe line? I bought a few of the luxe tops there while in Las Vegas (all were on sale -- I seldom pay full price for clothing).

But honestly, I can't tell any difference between regular Cache' or the Cache' lux styles -- except the luxe costs more.

Unfortunately, I don't have a Cache' in my hometown.

Fortunately, I travel quite a bit to larger cities (South Beach, Las Vegas, NYC, Atlanta, NYC, etc.) where I can find Cache', Bebe and Forever 21 as well as Louis Vuitton and Versace. Forever 21 has great trendy clothing and most of their items are under $30.

Versace is way out of my league, though. I own one Versace handbag two years ago when I was on my annual Christmas trip to Las Vegas and it is tiny, but fortunately substantial due to its depth. It was $615.

Now that I don't have any money to spare on such luxuries, I buy Target and really like it!

Cheers!

Maybe it's just particular retailers. I for one have not noticed this. I have lots of pants that I bought several years ago all size 10 and all fit me fine. Well I saw the EXACT same pants a few weeks ago and thought I'd just pick up another pair of size 10's in a different color since I already know they'll fit great. Got them home and they were too small!! So their new size 12 is their old size 10. I bought the 12's but I wasn't too happy about it. Really, it all depends on the maker how the sizes are cut.

I agree about the shoes. I was a 3/4 - 5/6 as a teenager. I shop a lot in Ann Taylor and now I'm a size 2 and I'm not any smaller now than I was then. I also fit into a 0 top which I never have before.

Old Navy's sizes are ridiculous! I usually wear a size 4 there (but sometimes a 2!). And at most other stores I'm a solid 4, but I know that the sizes have changed. I was at my Mom's house & we were going through some of her old clothes so I thought it would be fun to try them on. Some of her dresses were a size 12, but they fit me. They would probably be a size 4 in today's standards. So when that email that I think everyone has read about Marilyn Monroe being a size 12, it was a *totally* different size 12 than what's available today! Try the Jr's dept, their sizes seem to be a bit more *true*.

I wanted to comment on this because I have noticed that I am suddenly a size 2 or 4. I was thinking the exact same thing. WTH??? I'm not a 2 or 4! I am frustrated as well because I used to be able to buy pants off the rack without alteration or even trying them on. No longer am I able to do that. I suspect part of it is differing styles now offered, different lengths, rises, etc. But still.... It's so irritating. And I hate to complain about wearing a smaller size, it just doesn't seem natural for me though...

See, now we're all thinking on the right track! Now everyone practice saying, "does this barrel and/or sheet make me look fat?"

I suppose when we get dressed up we can throw on a brightly colored tarp and wrap it up with a rope! Classy;)

This is all due to that creative marketing theory. "If I wear a size 8 in Jones New York, I'd rather buy that than Kasper, where I wear a size 10." I think they are calling it "designer sizing." It's a load of cr#p, if you ask me! I really don't pay attention to the numbers to decide what I want to buy. But when I fit into a small nicely (at six feet tall, not petite and medium build/weight), it almost annoys me!

The more annoying part of it, honestly, is that I have to take several sizes of the same item to try on now becuase you never know how it will fit. AS it was , I always took a 10 and 12 but now I need an 8 at times too.
