Tingling hands

Hi Cathe,

As I was doing MIS the other day, my hands started to tingle while I had the barbell on my shoulders. I've recently increased from 30 pounds to 35. I didn't know if it might be the extra weight, or improper placement of the barbell, etc. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Kathy

Hi Kathy!

You are not alone. Many people have this occur(including myself). Although the sensation does eventually seem to lessen with time, I don't know exactly what it is due to. I get the feeling that it is due to the restricted bloodflow down through the arms. The nature of this position has the arms closed so tightly and stretched back so far that I think the circulation is slowed a bit. I especially find my arms feeling as though they have fallen asleep when I get into this position following a very tough bicep workout.

I have found that spacing my arms a little further apart on the barbell and having the barbell rest on the "meatier" portion of the upper back has helped to alleviate a bit of the sensation. See if this helps.

Wow - what a fast response! Now I'm not so worried. I will try that, thanks for the info and advice!
PS - I think your strength training tapes are the best
