Time for recovery.......

I know you need to put at least one day between your weight workouts...but if you are still sore after one day off weights is it all right to do weights again?...or is this defeating the whole purpose of lifting (if your goal is to get a cut look)?

I always thought that rest time is suppose to be between 24-48 hrs.My bum is still sore form doing legs on Wed.But I am still going to do kickboxing now.
Depends on how sore you are.If it isn't that bad I would go for it but if it hurts to walk or move your arms maybe you need another day:D

Recovery time actually is based on how your body feels & how you are working it. For example if I do Cardio & Weights, which has a lot of leg work, today & if I feel good tomorrow, I'm doing PLB. The reason it is ok to do this is because I will be working my muscles in a different way.

I know it doesn't help much for everyone to tell you to listen to your body but that's what it comes down to.

See thats what I thought too..I had just heard that you shouldnt work your muscles if they were still sore ....but sometimes that would be 3 days at least.

According to the author of "Beyond Brawn" (which is full of advice for "hard gainers" who want to get big---I take all the advice with a grain or two or three of salt), to build muscle, you need to wait until the muscle recovers, and a bit more for growth, before working the same muscle again. Since I'm not going for size, I think that working out when you still have some residual soreness is fine, as long as it doesn't lead to overtrainig, though you may benefit from waiting longer because you'll be able to lift more. Instead of doing a weigt workout, you might want to do a cardio workout that hits the same muscle group: kickbox or step for lower body, kickboxing/boxing for upper body.

I NEVER work any of my muscles again until they have fully recovered from the previous workout. Think about it..if you
do a light leg day and stay sore for 1 day and then work out again..good. BUT, if you do a harder leg workout and remain sore for 3 days, would you still try and workout after one day?? NO, because obviously your legs are still recovering from the harder leg workout. It makes sense that the higher the intensity level of training, the longer muscle recovery will take..

To me, there really is no point. But, I do care about size. If my muscles are still sore I won't be able to lift as much weight and therefore will not get optimum size and strength gains. In that situation, rest is always better.

I will however do cardio if my legs are still sore, but not if they are in the "can't walk" or "fall on the toilet seat" zone. If they are mildy sore I will walk, run, but NOT rollerblade which requires more muscle involvement. Nor will I bike..too much quad involvement, too much resistance. If my legs are sore I will not kickbox either..you get the picture....

But I have worked my legs hard enough to be out of commission for 4 days. Those times are kinda a bummer, but I do realize that I kicked butt, literally, and my body needs more rest. Like today, my legs are a little tight, a little sore....I could have done hard cardio probably, but I want to be able to bike and hike both days this weekend. So, today had to be a rest day or I know my legs would really be complaining. And this way, they are very fresh for tommorrow..

Just my opinion...

Gettingfit,
Is that what you look like in real life? Do you have orange hair and a bun? Do you wear heels around the house and red lipstick, even though no one is comming to visit? My goodness, how do you keep that furry thing around your neck when you sweat with Cathe everyday?;-)
Just kidding,
Lori
