LAST EDITED ON Aug-10-02 AT 10:57PM (Est)[p]MIC. Enough said for me there.
But I'll tell ya something, I came into the den last night while DH was watching something I thought at first was a war movie. Turns out it was a Discovery Channel documentary on what it takes to become a Marine at that boot camp down in S.C. It was in three parts and it showed both men and women going through 12 weeks of hell that with all due respect to every fitness video you've ever seen, makes them all look like a hot bath and massage by comparison.
I am truly in awe of all the physical and mental training they went through to survive that place. And there were some female drill instructors there that no man should ever mess with if they don't want their faces rearranged. Hubby was watching this one DI train both men and women in different take-downs and throws and stuff and how she was screaming at them to not hold anything back. He said, "D### I would not mess with that woman!" She meant business too. You could tell by watching.
There were some small women in that group I didn't think would make it, but they surprised me and toughed it out. This one little girl, well woman, sorry Tricia, was a sweet young thing who looked like she was from India or somewhere like that, and you would never guess she was the U.S. Marine Corps type, but she surprised us all I think, and probably herself.
But this other girl, from somewhere I can't remember didn't make it and it showed how she went back home to be with her family and work in her dad's business. She was undecided what she wanted to do with her life. What was really disappointing and made me mad at her was that she had almost made it through all 12 weeks, but she got caught with pot and it was all over for her as a Marine recruit. That was really disappointing.
The final test is what really separates the men from the boys and the women from the girls. It's called The Crucible and makes them go through a combination of long marching and running, obstacle courses and team problem solving exercises, weapons and hand-to-hand combat and doing all that over 54 hours with only about 4 hours of sleep a night for two nights and ONE small meal a day.
Sorry for me rambling on and on, but when was the last time any fitness video made you do all that? Of course, working out religiously to Cathe's tapes and those Tae Bo videos would help get you in shape for all that, but not completely. I am truly amazed, in awe and deep respect for all those men and women.
Sincerely,
Martina
