Hey everybody!

As many of you know, we have a son, Alex, who is a junior at UNC-Chapel Hill. (Some of you will remember, and none of you will comment on, my little VISA card incident when he was starting at UNC in 2005 ;-)).

Our younger son Evan has done so well in high school, and we're incredibly proud of him. He was accepted to 8 fantastic universities, had a really tough decision, and has finally officially decided that in August he is enrolling at:

We're thrilled and so excited!!! I think it's gonna be an incredible thing for our boys to have that one year of overlap, a time when they can enjoy each other as brothers and friends while still being inside the bubble of "Mom and Dad are paying for just about everything." ;-) No responsibilities other than to do well in school and behave. Sweeeeeet!!! ;-)

Kathy! (aka Two Tar Heels Mom)
Congrats and congrats to your son,Evan. I know you are proud of him. When I was a student ( a thousand years ago!) I visited U of NC and thought it was a beautiful campus! Wonderful to have them both there. Does this mean you will be empty nesters next year? My youngest is a Jr in college also. The oldest just got married last weekend.
Thaks for sharing your happy news!

Gin:)

Kathy, that is just awesome! Now he's a legacy. ;-) Such a great school too, you must be so proud!

ETA: And I do remember the Visa incident, that was classic! :+

Oh how wonderful! It's especially nice that Alex will be able to show Evan the ropes. You must be so proud of your boys!

P.S. When I first saw this thread, I thought you were going to say that you learned the dance :p . So, how ARE you doing with the dance? :7

Hi Gin!

Yep, Empty Nest here we come -- Empty Bank Account here we come!! ;-)

It's a gorgeous campus, a wonderful college town and it's been a fantastic place for son #1. To have them both there has been a secret dream of ours, but we tried very hard to keep quiet and let Evan make his decision free of our bias. He had great choices and we thought for awhile he was going to pick UVA or Wash U-St. Louis (both such great places), so when he came bebopping into our room this week wearing a Carolina shirt and a big grin on his face, we were ecstatic!!!

Where's your son in college? Our older son Alex has had a girlfriend for 2 years and they're going strong -- we could be seeing a wedding in the not too distant future!! Oh my!!! :)

Kathy,
Our ds is a Jr at U of Oklahoma and loves it there. I was really the first of my close friends to have a child get married so I didn't know what I was supposed to do. All I heard was as Mother of the Groom I just needed to wear beige and keep my mouth shut. Well, my dress was dark purple!;)

I forgot all about your Thriller Dance. My DH just did the thriller dance at our church picnic with a group of middle aged men. Maybe he can teach it to me!!

Gin:)

That's great..You should be soooo proud of your boys. It's a struggle for many parents to even get one son into a good college program. But to have both boys at such a great school....A real blessing! Congratulations!

Congrats to your son for making a fantastic choice, I know several people who went there and recieved a great education and good jobs!!How are your dance moves coming along Kathy, we may have to battle it out on the roadtrip(I wonder if cathe has thriller?) ha ha LOL!!

Very cool, Kathy! What a great experience for them, and so wonderful that your son had so many choices. After hearing a friend of mine going through this process the last few weeks (more, of course, but that's when I started hearing all of the details), I don't envy anyone going through it! I wonder how much crazier it'll get in the next ten years when it's my turn!

Congratulations, Kathy!! How exciting for all of you :)

Eight schools -- that is incredible!!

And I won't mention the Visa incident...but I will chuckle to myself as I remember it well :)

I went to NCSU for part of my graduate school ride and I remember Chapel Hill because they actually had a Ben & Jerrys in town. So I hope the boys know where to find the great ice cream....and UNC's library is awesome!

Congratulations! Obviously your son's success is due to some mighty fine parenting! To be accepted to 8 universities is quite an accomplishment.

Here's to enjoying your soon-to-be empty nest!

Laura

Congratulations on raising two great sons to adulthood. What a wonderful accomplishment.

:) Kathy-Congrats to your whole crew! I remember how proud my parents were when I and my 2 sisters all got accepted to our respecitve schools!

But I have to admit that I LOL when I read "behave". College, and Behave. 2 words that don't always go together, right? Add in a sibling? I remember the few times my younger Sis came to visit me on my campus....I showed her a "good time". lol

OK....now back to my "good little Catholic Girl" personality.

Gayle

Kathy-I'm just saying this to be funny....not to say that either of your DS's would misbehave.
