Those last 10 pounds!!

I came back to work in Jan after wonderful babe number 3 with 27 lbs to loose. I started back with Cathe workouts and eating 5 small meals per day. All good clean eating with the occassional chocolate. It worked great for the first 3 months and I steady lost 1 to 2 lbs per week. I lost 17 lbs and was down to the last 10. Then it stopped working! I know the last 10 are always the hardest but why would the exact workout/eating plan that worked so wonderfully before not be working now?

I know exactly what you mean. With good eating and exercise, I lost all but the last 10 pounds also after baby number 2. I would say that your body is at a plateau right now. You may want to change your workout routine. You didn't say how many days of cardio/strength training that you do. You have already been eating clean. I will just tell you what helped me lose those last 10 pounds. Each person is different, but I will tell you what worked for me. I read an article about the 3 food rule (Crave 1 Eat 2 )in Prevention. It talked about when you crave sweets, you should also eat 2 additional things with it. The focus was to eat a protein with every meal and snack. One of the other 2 foods must be a fruit or veggie. Therefore, I tried to eat more whole wheat and veggies. I ate a protein, veggie and fruit for almost every meal. The article said if you crave chocolate chip cookies, have some, but also have a protein and fruit or veggie at the same time. However, I tried to stay away from junk food like you and focus more on complex carbs, fruits, veggies. For ex. for breakfast, I ate whole wheat toast, peanut butter (protein), banana and juice. For snack, I may have had cheese (protein) , whole wheat crackers and grapes. With Cathe and this eating plan, I lost those 10 pounds, gained muscle and I feel great. Good Luck. Keep at it. It will work out for you.

There also seems to be this "post pregnancy" plateau that occurs during various months after baby is born. I had a baby at the end of December 03 and seemed to be stuck about 2 months ago. I was very determined with my diet and ate really clean....but couldn't seem to lose any weight. Then in the past 3 weeks or so, I've been loosing again. This has happened with the other postpregnancies as well. Now...I've also changed up my routine in the last 3-4 weeks with the P90X, so as she said above, try changing things up. Also when the heat comes, I suddenly have a drop in eating and drink loads of water and this probably helped as well. The hormonal changes that occur for the months after pregnancy many times determine "when" the weight starts to drop. If you are eating pretty clean (healthy) then you are probably at one of those "post prego sticking" points. Did you go through this with the other babies - in other words....how fast did the weight come off with the others?

Debbie - I sware I could have written your post! I am right there with you! I had my 2nd baby on January 23rd. I gained approx 38-40 lbs. I lost the first 30 pretty easily! But now I have this last 8-9 lbs that just WON'T budge!!!!!!!!x( x( x( I think Briee is right in that we are just STUCK! I too have started mixing things up a bit. I am adding in more cardio for awhile. I am doing BFL and was only doing cardio 3 times a week. But I think I am going to start doing it at least 5 times and see if that works. I have so much fat on my legs that just won't go away. I don't even want to wear shorts! I know that if I could just lose that last 10 lbs plus 5 more I would be FAB!!!! I am in my size 8's and 10's (down from 12's & 14's) so I know I have made progress. But those 6's just seem sooooooo far away right now! ;( ;( ;(

I am thinking of trying the P90x series. I have also started working out at the gym more. I lost 3 lbs last week and I truly think it was just b/c of the mix up. I think our muscles get use to certain exercises and routines. I am going to try and do cario at the gym 2 days a week and Cathe 3 times.

Good luck! Let us know if you have any luck mixing it up if you decide to do so!

I know I get so confused on if I should do wts or cardio. There are so many conflicting answers out ther.

Good luck!

Water water water.

I lost my last 10 lbs from the last (3rd) pg plus another 10 that I needed to, on WW with Cathe workouts.

Found I wasn't drinking nearly enough water. Also lots of fiber (5 servings of fruits or veggies per day), 3 servings of low fat dairy per day. Cut out breakfast cereal and sugar, both.

Other thought: make sure you are eating enough? With the workouts and possibly breastfeeding...WW talks about folks who don't eat enough, their body holds on to the weight. Cathe workouts are strenuous. It is also normal (per them) to plateau every so often, and to stick with it (but this is hard...maybe there really is something that needs to be tweaked).

? Just some thoughts.

Thanks everyone for the words of encouragement. Briee, you are probably right on the preg. plateau I do remember having a similiar problem with the other 2 babies. I think you are right about changing things up a bit. I want to start running now that the weather is good. I workout 4 to 5 times a week with 45 minutes of various cardio and 10 to 20 minutes of weights (mostly upper body). I only do light lower body weights as this is where I hold most of my weight and I feel too bulky if I do too much lower body work. I also want to try increasing my water intake. It seems so simple but its hard to do consistently. I am determined to get the last few pounds off I hate being so close to fitting in my pre-preg clothes yet they are just too tight!
