This year's fitness goals?

It's kinda late in the year to be asking this, but I'm curious. Do you set a fitness goal at the start of the year and work at it for a full 12 months?

In 2003, when I first discovered Cathe, my goal was to strengthen my back to help my scoliosis and get off 3 prescription meds. Doctor's orders. I accomplished the goal long before the year ended.

Last year my goal was to get my bench press weight to 60 lbs. It was hard, but I did it just before the year ended.

This year my goal is to work more on my balance and flexibility. I'm hoping that by the end of the year I can do the bridge pose with one leg up. The last time I did yoga, I was able to hold it a full 35 sec., up from 30, up from 20, up from a whopping 10 at the start of the year. I'd also like to be able to do the moon pose without falling on my face AND the twisting moon pose with my leg up.

Maybe next year I can try working on chin-ups? Thinking ahead already.:)

Since I turned 40, I've set and achieved fitness goals every year. I give myself until my next birthday. Here are the goals I've set:

40: to do a split (they've gotten better and better)
41: to do five full-body push-ups (I can now do about 16 w/out resting. When I set the goal, I could barely do 2.)
42: to do a teaser (they've also gotten much better)
43: to get my upper body to lie totally flat against my legs in a standing forward bend (I haven't worked on it too much but I still have 8 more months!)

I'm also thinking ahead. I'd like to be able to do a pull-up.

It's never too early or too late, Pinky. I am in a very unstructured phase right now. I have lightend everything up to accomodate yoga but I fly by the seat of my pants because my kids keep my schedule erratic with theirs. I look forward to May when school lets out and I am a freer woman. I've been doing the same 4 Hardcore workouts between yoga classes and it's just fine for now. I just go with the flow. I have no concrete goals but they'll get here when they get here and that will most like be when I can fit them in.

One of my goals that has been accomplished now was to strengthen my back so it would not come up during the workouts. Also, I finish all the workouts now, including Boot Camp. In the beginning, I could not finish them all, all of the time.

What I still want to accomplish:

push ups on toes
20lbs for bicep curls/hammer curls
bench press 60lbs
MORE MUSCLE...I want my butt to look like 5lb medicine balls for each cheek, that would be great!!!
