This Past Week's Tragedy.......

Those of you who know me well know that I am a huge Jeff Gordon fan. This past week 8 people associated with Jeff's team and car owner, Rick Hendrick, were killed in a plane wreck along with the 2 pilots.
I just wanted to take some room in my favorite forum to say my prayers are with the families and friends of those killed.
Today's race is going to be very tough and possibly a little dangerous as we'll have 4 Hendrick team cars--Jeff Gordon's #24, Terry Labonte's #5, Jimmie Johnson's #48, and Brian Vickers' #25 all running in the race with other drivers who are all going to have to attempt to block out this tragedy and go all-out at 200 MPH. I wish them all the strength in the world during this time. I think at this point I'd trade all of Jeff's 4 championships for him to get this one win today and honor those people in some small way.....
Blue wristbands with the words "Life is a team sport" will be showing up on the internet for sale. The money will go to the Hendrick Bone Marrow Program. These are similar to the Lance Armstrong bands you may have seen before. Randy Dorton, chief engine builder for Hendrick, was wearing one when he died in the wreck. I'd encourage all of you to purchase some for a dollar apiece.
Lastly, this again reminds us all to NEVER take anyone for granted and to cherish the moments we have here with friends and loved ones.
GOOOOO 24!

I read about this but didn't realize it was Jeff Gordon's team. I don't think our news even touched on this out here. How truly tragic this accident was.

Trevor, I am so sorry to hear this! I agree...it will be a tough race for them all today after such a tragedy. I will definitely keep them and their families in my thoughts and prayers. I will also keep my eyes open for the blue wristbands to help support their cause. Thanks for letting us know. Gooooo 24!!!

My prayers and good thoughts are with them today as well, Trev. Email me if you need to "talk".

I didn't hear about it either. I'm so sorry Trev; I know that you are a huge fan. Where do I find those wristbands? I love the words. Alexis

Trevor,

This was very sad. Very aware of this tragedy, I live in Daytona Beach. Life is short and we never know what is going to happen to us. Live life to the fullest and be nice to everybody you meet!!

Forgot to mention...

the wristbands can be purchased at:

www.jeffgordon.com

The site has been greyed out and made inactive except for some links on the left side of the page. Scroll all the way down and you'll see the reference to the bands. You can order via phone or card. The adult ones are on backorder.
The Hendricks are extremely nice people and I have donated to their charity as well as Jeff's charity in the past. Very good people!
GOOOOOOOOO 24!!

Hi Trevor,

I was greatly saddened when I heard this news...I thought about you also. Thanks for letting us know about the wristbands. Definitely a good cause.

My thoughts & prayers are with the family & friends. I had thought about suggesting it to my prayer circle, and it was already being done.

Ruth:(

p.s. Hi Lori...my brother & his family live in Daytona Beach. We go down there periodically.

I hadn't heard of any of this. As a matter of fact, we just gave two tickets to some friends to be in Atlanta today. He's a Jeff Gordon fan and never mentioned this.

My thoughts and prayers are with the family.

Go Jeff...god speed.

Oh Trevor, You know I am thinking about you. I am glad Jimmie won today, I am sorry it wasn't Jeff for you, but at least a Hendricks team member took the race. It broke my heart to see them all after the race. How heartbreaking......God Bless Them All.
Lori

Jeff broke a gear today but actually gained in the points chase.
It was AWESOME to have Jimmie in victory lane. For a Hendrick car to win after the week they've had was just incredible and very moving as all 4 teams were in victory lane after the race. A great tribute to the fallen.
GOOOOO 24!

Hi Trev. I am a big NASCAR fan myself. I don't like Jeff Gordon myself but this was a horrible tragedy.

It was nice to see a Hendrick team win but I was rooting for Mark Martin. He hasn't won in so long and he came so close. Oh well, they are all in my thoughts and prayers.

I was sorry to read about this tragedy. Lie is short, and sometimes we forget the real important issues in life until sadly, a tragedy happens. Thank you for reminding us.

I also am a fan of Nascar (as you can see by my user name). I know exactly how you are feeling. I was a huge Alan Kulwicki fan. He died in a plan crash in 1993. I was really touched yesterday when Jimmie went around the track doing the polish victory lap. For me, that was the best part of the race. I know my racer doesn't have a chance of winning the cup, but GOOOO 17!

Such a heart breaking story. My thoughts and prayers go out to the families and to all who knew and loved them.
A sad reminder of how fragile life can be. The Bone Marrow fund is a fabulous cause and beautifully honours Rick's memory.
GOOOOOO 24!

Take Care
Laurie
