Yeah, if the government really wanted to help, healthier eating would be cheaper. There are so many times when I have to pass up some of the fruits and veggies because of the high prices. And organic??? That is way out of my budget!!! I have notices in the past month a pretty steep increase on grocery items.

Mississippi Senator John Read, co-author of this nonsense, was on Good Morning American this a.m. saying that the bill was not intended to be serious, just to start a "dialogue" about the obesity epidemic facing Mississippi. I almost felt sorry for him because based on this logic, he is not a very bright man.

When pressed by the reporter he avoided questions such as "isn't there a better way to go about this?" I guess in his world, if you want to start a conversation about a difficult issue, you should insult a group of people first (a strategy which would have very "interesting" implications for a variety of controversial issues facing this country).

The President of the Obesity Action Coalition mentioned other decidedly positive alternatives to addressing obesity, such as some state offering Weight Watchers through Medicaid.
