Thinning Hair!

Hello,

My hair has had me frustrated ever since getting it cut last summer! Its always been thin,baby fine but I've noticed that its becoming thinner? I have a few Ideas on what may be causing it like......

I had gestational diabetes with my now two year old son,had to take insuline shots the last trimester!
~~~~~~`or~~~~~~~
After getting the hair cut last year I started using a flat iron I purchased from walmart on a high setting(stupid I know) and just fried my hair,but stopped using it around the end of fall.
Im not diabetic now,since having my DS i've been on a weight losing,healthier life rampage :7. Im 28 and I feel like I shouldn't have to worry about thin hair right now x( .I do take some hair,skin and nail viatimins but haven't seen a diffrence yet(taking them since feb).
Even my Gynocologist noticed it on my last female check up,she did some blood test and everything was fine!
Any suggetions,advice? Anybody going through something similar? I just don't remember my hair being this thin! it seems to have a "thinner area"on top near my forehead,not bald,just not full!
Thanks in advance!
Amelia, without getting into too much detail there are a ton of things that can cause hair loss. Anything from physical illnesses to emotional stress to diet. Is it just thinning out all over? It sounds like you've had some blood work. Make sure you were tested for anemia and thyroid disorders. Take Biotin 3000-5000mg/day. It will help both your hair and nails. It takes 4-6 months to see any effect though.
Thanks Catherine,is the Biotin at walmart ok? also,can I take the Biotin with my multivitamin? And yes,I was tested for anemia and thyroid disorders and that turned out ok! I did have a very hard time post partum with my son(he had jaundice ,I had a C-section that gave me a hard time healing,A home nurse came out and changed my bandages twice a day cause it was healing from the inside out)
And to answer your question,its thinning everywhere,but more noticible(sp)in the area right above the middle of the forhead! I wear my hair in a ponytail(or pulled back) about 90% of the time,a family member suggested that the "tug" on the ponytail could be it too!
I too have baby fine hair, I gave up on it and got extensions, "Hair Dreams". I love them, they are pricey but I love them. I have them shoulder length, no "stripper" hair here!:) It takes me less time to fix my hair because of the slight thickness the extensions have given me, its easier to work with. I only got half a head of them, but this little bit has made a huge difference.
I also started using Fredrick Fekkai's line for thinning hair. Do not know if it works that great, but I figured it could not hurt right?
The ponytail thing can pull and tug on delicate hair, never sleep in a ponytail. The biotin is a good idea and silica works well too.
Maybe try Roagaine too, I read somewhere women get good results from it too. Good luck sweetie, I know how frustrating it can be, and toss out that flatiron, its a fine haired girl's enemy!
:)
Amelia, yes there is something called "traction alopecia". That is from pulling the hair tight into braids or pony tails. So I would stop pulling your hair back (sorry) The Biotin at Walmart should be fine and you can take it with your multivit. I also agree that Silica is good. My Biotin has silica 100mg, L-Cysteine 50 mg and Biotin 3000.
Look at Amish women pictures. It could be that the ponytail is helping with thinning on top. Eat as much fresh foods as possible and drink well water or equivalent to that. Stay away from as much chemicals as you can. Everywhere there are chemicals, watch out for them.
The idea is to die young as late as possible
Thanks Ladies!
Catherine-If you don't mind me asking,what kind of supplement do you take that has the boictin in it? Theres one at a local health food store Im thinking about trying!
tneah~The kind of extentions that you have is Hair dreams? I think I'll look into that! I would love to have thicker hair...How often do you have to touch them up? Does it Damage the existing hair? I thought about Rogian too!My DH says Im just being over sensetive about it! I don't think so! I use to love fixing my hair and now if i try to "fix up"it just looks so thin,so thin that you can see through it:-(!
Janie-Yes I have noticed the Amish thinning thing on top! And I quit highlighting my hair last summer after that lady butchered my it,LOL!
Amelia, it's called Elon Matrix- made by Darmouth Pharmaceuticals. We carry it here at our office, but I think you can order it on line. You should do fine at your local healthfood store ;)
Also, Rogaine works, but make sure you take use the Rogaine for women. You can not get pregnant while using this. And don't get it anywhere you don't want to grow hair like your forehead!! It takes about 3-6 months for it to work.
Hi Amelia!!
I would suggest that you visit a dermatologist first b/f you do anything so you can find out the true cause of the thinning. The thing that you may do to help the situation may harn it if you do not know what it is. JMHO!
Try Nioxin hair and skin supplement. You can get it at ULTA or some hair salons. I know SuperCuts has carried it in the past. It definitely helped for me. My hairdresser said that from time to time we go through natural molting stages with our hair.
