Remember the junior drill team I coach? Well, first practice was today!! I have 42 girls, about 30 who returned from last year.
I use one of my 2 Cathe calendars for my squad - we write in the girls birthdays and all of our parades and performances. The girls know to look for my calendar. So there we were - first practice of '08, I pulled out my calendar and asked if anyone remembered who it was. About 25 hands SHOT UP in the air. They remembered that just as I am their "coach" I call you my "muscle coach." Then I asked if they recalled your name - sure enough! They all knew - "CATHE!!"
I also teach them the names of the (major) muscles in their bodies that they have to use when performing. And I show them how to warm up the muscles and work into a stretch. Last year I had the stickers that came with the calendar and I quizzed them. I put them into small group teams, showed them a certain stretch and asked them to name the major muscle. First team to correctly answer got stickers on their cheeks or foreheads! They had a blast. Sure enough - they asked today if we could do the stickers quiz again when all the new girls learn the muscle names! How FUN to watch these girls learn! Thanks for all you do!!!
