They just don't understand

Why is it so hard to explain to people how great and effective Cathe's workouts are? I was so excited to hear about the Cathe road trip. But for financial and personal reasons I can't go. But I was talking about it to a few people and they all looked at me like I'm crazy.

My sister-in-law (who by the way got started doing step and joined the Y because of me and now thinks she's Miss Fitness Queen) said "You're going to go all the way to New Jersey just to workout? I guess if that's what interests you." I even showed her part of Rhythmic Step to show her it's not easy or dull. She said "Oh yeah we do that. Maybe I can borrow these and take to the instructor for some different ideas." I think not.

My co-worker just kind of gave me that "you can't be serious" look and didn't say a word.

My mother said "Kimbra you can't afford that. That's just silly."

The only one who understands (other than you guys) is my husband.

Maybe I can make the next one.

Kimbra, you're always going to have the party-poopers & the nay-sayers. Who cares? As long as you are enjoying yourself & satisfying your workout needs.

Marla:)

I am pleased to say for the most part that's not the reaction I've been getting. My friends & coworkers know how important fitness is to me, & when I tell them (with a manic gleam in my eye & a hungry, wolfish smile on my face) that I'm going to Cathe Camp I hear "that is really cool," "you must be so excited," things of that nature. It's been kind of nice. :)

Except for my wonderful boss who said, "well, that's great, b/c I know everything is all about you." WTH does that mean? Oooooh I guess b/c I'm blowing off his wedding to go. Crap, I just realized why he said that. Bad, bad Laura. :-(

Personally, I think people who put you down for enjoying exercise as much as you do, are just plain jealous of you and your fitness level. Most people, unfortunately, do NOT a high enough emphasis on exercise in their life and just cant relate to your desire to meet people who share your interest in exercise. Dont let it get you down.

Hey, I completely understand! I'd go, if I wasn't already planning on another exercise getaway. Been planning and saving for this one for a couple of years, before I got the nerve. A full week in Canada, Lake Louise, with Charlene Prickett. 6:30 a.m. aerobic workouts, day-long hikes in the mountains, return for dinner and evening weights or stretch sessions. Anybody jealous?

Shannon

I'm jealous of ANYONE doing a fitness retreat!

When they look at you like you are nuts our make dumbass comments like "that's just silly", ask them this..."Would it make more sense to spend 3 times that money to go LAY on a beach for a few days getting sunburn and sand up my ass, spend sh$t loads of money on over priced restaraunt food (that is clogging the arteries), and drinks in the sun? Is that reasonable and no longer silly? You relax and unwind your way and I'll relax and unwind my way".

I hear ya!!!! I go to Hawaii with my husband only because I can spend most of my day at a great gym taking decent quality aerobic classes, lifting, getting massages, and not getting burned. My friends think I am nuts.

I am also totally jealous of your Lake Louise retreat with Charlene PIchett. Have fun and let us know details.

I am laughing and crying and agreeing 101%!

I too agree that people who think nothing of spending hundreds or thousands of dollars to go lay down somewhere but chastise someone who pays a few sous to work out with an excellent workout instructor / producer really aren't worth the calories it takes to educate them.

Although I cannot go on this Road Trip, it is a Someday Goal of mine. When I think of the number of people who drop hundreds of dollars on season tickets for sports events (an expensive way to sit on their butts), people who drop hundreds of dollars on tickets for movies and plays (two more expensive ways to sit on their butts), people who drop hundreds of dollars to go to casinos, sit on their butts and spend/LOSE hundreds more dollars in gambling and booze, all the way up to people who spend hundreds or thousands of dollars to go on Pedophile Journeys Through Asia . . . ah, well: You paddle your canoe and I'll paddle mind. I just won't get winded after two strokes in the water.

I told my hubby about the road trip and he thinks I need to get a life. Can you believe that one? He wasn't trying to be mean. He thinks he was being funny, but it wasn't funny. He didn't see me laughing, but it is o.k. for him to go hang out with his buddies and play nerdy wargames once a month....this is what he use to do and I didn't say anything to him about it. I just thought it was a waste of time and dumb, but he liked it just like I would like to be with you guys for the road trip.
I agree with Sarah. There are so many ways to waste money, this is not one of them. I just can't afford to go, but if I could I would.

Charlotte~~

Sarah!

And here I thought I enjoyed going to the beach in the summer! Awwwk! But, I will admit that the Cathe trip excites me more then just about any vacation we have ever taken!!!

The only regret about shelling out this amount of money is that some of the coolest people are not going to make it. Namely, Annette, Charlotte, Sarah... the list goes on.

Kimbra, I'm sorry you can't attend this time. It is hard for some people to understand our excitement over something that makes us sweaty & stinky! :7 I have several people I just told that I am going on a fitness convention because they wouldn't understand my excitement about meeting a video instructor and those that hang out at her forums. I know who I can tell and who I can't. (Is that lying???) I sooo hope you can make the next trip. We will post tons of pix for you to see!

i understand. My family all understands. My Dh knows how much I would love to go to a Cathe retreat. Maybe when he gets back because I would love to share the experience with him:) If Cathe does it again. I have so many people that I would love to meet.

Thanks for listening guys. I think I'm just going to keep my mouth shut around certain people from now on about exercising. My husband is so sweet and supportive about it all. He said if I really wanted to go he'd go with me and we'd find the money. I thanked him and said it's just not the right choice right now. The other day I was showing him step, jump,& pump (because it was freezing and stopping and he's the electronic king) and he said "Good grief. I'd be passed out on the floor by now (this was during the warm-up )." I just laughed. :D

Thanks again,
Kimbra

To those who are not into Cathe, being excited about the road trip is probably like hearing some Trekker excited about going to a Star Trek convention. Or a philatalist going to a stamp collector convention. To each her/his own!

That's a particularly appropriate comment considering that many folks spent ALL night camped out at movie theaters for tonight's midnight showing of the new Star Wars movie! (I'm not one of those folks, but I have a student who did it!)

OMG! You mean I MISSED it!;-)

>LOL Kathryn! And here I forgot to pick up my Stormtrooper
>suit from the cleaners. I hate being unprepared.

I just saw a Darth Vader mask (that changes your voice so you sound like Darth) at Walmart.
