The YOU diet - Sugar-free side effects?

Okay, so I'm giving the YOU diet (as seen on Oprah) a try. I've had the exercise thing down for years, but simply just can't lose the weight. I'll exercise anywhere from 45 to 90 minutes a day, incorporating both strength and cardio. I'll see modest loss (maybe 3 pounds or so) and then nothing...and quickly gain the 3 pounds back. So, I've deduced it's my diet. I thought I was eating healthy foods for the most part, but admit I've had a bit of a sugar addiction...I didn't realize just how much so until I started looking into this YOU diet, though.

So, I've started incorporating the YOU meals into my daily diet and 1) I'm very surprised at how good they are! 2) I'm surprised at how much I get to eat! 3) I've been surprised at how full some of the snacks and meals make me feel after just a little bit of food, and 4) I'M SUFFERING SOME SIDE EFFECTS OF SUGAR WITHDRAWAL.

Has anyone else tried the YOU diet? Or has anyone else gone sugar-free and lived to tell about it? :) I had the headache from hell yesterday, and thought it was just my old Monday headache coming back to haunt me (I used to get bad headaches on Mondays, but haven't had one of those in months!!). Then today, right after lunch, I started feeling the headache from hell coming back - at an accelerated rate, I might add. I quickly thought "sugar withdrawal" and grabbed some cookies from the vending machine. Sure enough - within 15 minutes of eating those cookies, my headache was pretty much gone. I hear that headaches from sugar withdrawal are common, but that they're not supposed to be as severe as those from caffeine withdrawal. Unfortunately, the one I had yesterday was as bad as the ones I got when I went caffeine free years ago, so I'm not so sure about that statistic. Should I keep a few cookies near-at-hand for a couple of weeks to help me ween away from sugar? I can't take another headache like the one I had yesterday!

Catwoman,
Do you think that a piece of fruit would help? I've recently started doind a modified Eat to Live plan and of course there is no sugar or processed foods. I've been getting headaches at night which have subsided after a tangerine or a *splash* of orange juice. If I were you, I wouldn't add sugar in my diet as it may take longer to wean yourself off.
Maybe someone else will chime in....

Catwoman- Good News: Once you are de-toxed you will get headaches (killer) when you DO eat sugar!
I weaned myself off of sugar/processed foods with sugar just this year. I did it slowly.... I was lethargic and cranky & headachy for about 2 weeks... I guess I just "programed" my thoughts... "This horrid feeling is not because I am not eating sugar I feel horrid because I was addicted to sugar..." The sugar makes you feel bad and when its out of your system your body will reject it the next time you eat it.
I would not add-in cookies or the like if you have already omitted them... Its like quitting smoking but then having "just 1". Doesnt work well because there is a chemical reaction that occurs in the body when sugar is ingested- its not just mental.

Drink a TON of Water w/ Lemon to de-tox!
Drink Green Tea (decaf) w/ lemon
For me lemon curbs cravings and helps to rid my body of all ailments.

Use fruit to help with the 2 or 3 worst times of day but dont go crazy and eat only fruit

Avoid cutting out all things at once...Changing 1 addiction/habit at a time generally works best over a 180dgree turnaround overnight.

It will get easier....and wherever you heard/read that sugar withdrawals are any less than caffeine w/drawals I question. Too many factors... How deeply engrained is the addiction, your level of commitment to abolishing it, # of years on it, and the 1 thing that always holds true...Every BODY is different and reacts differently to food.

All of this is just my experience, opinion & research..... Good Luck! Its really worth it in the end.

I'm going to start this right after Christmas. Right now I am still reading the book and getting ideas on how to get rid of my sweet tooth. Good luck! I'm sure I will have horrible sugar withdrawal.
