The "working out at home" thread has me curious

RE: The

Carol, I really wish you would calm down. I think you write a lot of great posts but there are times when I read what you write and you come across as though you are spitting fire and brimstone. While I do not agree with all that Yen wrote I do not think she was as rude as you were in your post to her just now. She did talk about practicing what she preached. I do not know Yen, although I am sure she will want to word her own reply.

I see absolutely no harm in making a little effort. Knowing that something you do will harm the environment and doing it anyway, is not a good way to live in this world you share with everyone and everything. That's not only my oppinion it's sense. Trying to do something about it by at least living with care, is a kind way to live and it's something that should be heralded. I don't know if Yen was trying to say that but I do know that I am saying it here and now. It's what I believe and I don't think it's kind of you to blast someone in the way that you did (I didn't think it kind of Yen to say what she said in the way she said it either).

Additionally, you do not need to live in a cave these days (nor did we ever) to live in a pure way. It's perfectly feasible to build a very nice home out of recycled materials (or from sustainable forests) that is properly insulated. You can draw your energy and water from renewable sources and deal with your sewage in an environmentally friendly way. You can grow your own food and make your own clothes and still look nice, live nice and own a home that looks nice. There are plenty of houses like this all over the world.

P.S. I'm not one of your groupies by the way (you have groupies?!) I'm just a cranky Brit trying to strike a balance. Poor Maximus I bet you wish you hadn't started this thread!

RE: The

Actually I am glad I started the thread b/c I've gotten a lot of different perspectives posted in a reasonable & rational way. See, now I did not see Carol's post as rude--to the contrary, I found Yen's post incredibly presumptive & preachy. I mean, to say everyone who belongs to a gym is a narcissist? (not to mention she spelled it wrong) That is just unbelievably harsh, not to mention ignorant! I haven't been posting here long but I've never noticed any rude comments by Carol.

So maybe I'm one of Carol's groupies now? Jeez I've never been a groupie before. Cool.

I'm glad you aren't put off :) This can be a very interesting and sparky forum. It can also be a very supportive place to come albeit with the occasional row.

RE: The

Well, let's not ever forget that Carol and Trevor always have the right opinion on everything, even if it is an OPINION. LOL:)

RE: The

Thanks for the perspective, Lisa. I do appreciate it. But, I'm afraid I must respectfully disagree. I found her posts to be insulting and preachy. There's a way to get your point across without insulting an entire country, or group of people, and that's exactly what she did. I'm afraid I don't much care for people who try to shove their beliefs down my throat, and that's how her posts felt to me. However, I will take what you said about my posts to heart. Thank you.

RE: The

And you're my favorite one, Trevor!! LOL!!

RE: The

That's right--like I always say, everyone's entitled to their own opinion, no matter how wrong it might be.}(

RE: The

Maximus,

I think it's "bend and snap" and then snatch the guy lol. As Elle would say, you may need to put a little more snap in it to work for you. I am such a dork for knowing that hahah!

RE: The

LOL!! Maximus, I'm really glad you joined this forum! I truly enjoy your posts!!

RE: The

Well I am glad you think I am right on everything PUPSWIFE. Thanks for that! Seriously, my opinions are not always correct and I never thought they were. Mine usually are backed up by some logic and common sense however. And really, no one in here can make an argument that the gym hurts the cerebral development or the environment and then say other activities like tennis or blading, are better in those respects. I dare anyone in here to put a case together that proves that. I do all of these activities and I feel like I know. Yen threw that out there without giving it validity and that's only because she doesn't like the gym. That's fine. But give me the real reasons instead of invoking social issues that you may believe in but that do not fit in with this subject matter.
I haven't lost brain matter from attending a gym and I also am not hurting the environment anymore than anyone else is, by attending a gym. And that's that in my opinion.
And lastly, PUPSWIFE, I already know how you feel about me so instead of chopping at me why don't you give us your take on all of this?

Carol: *hugs*

I can see why you (and others) felt offended and I certainly hope I didn't offend you or anyone else here. You don't have to take anything anyone says here to heart. I do think you write very supportive and kindly worded posts that have great value here.

RE: The

Lisa, *hugs* right back!! Everything is cool!! Sometimes it's good to see ourselves as others see us. It helps us realize our words are not always being "read" the way they may "sound" in our minds, if you know what I mean! Thanks for your kind words!! I wasn't offended at all!!

RE: The

OH! That was an INSULT she posted, not a supportive statement!! DUH! (me slapping myself upside the head) Now I get it.

RE: The

Hey, maybe it was neither, just a statement of fact? I mean, I know I'm always right, and I don't consider that complementing myself, just telling it like it is.:+

RE: The

I like that better!! Thanks for the perspective!!

RE: The

You are soooo right Carol. The posts seemed completely condescending to me too. I feel like "Don't dictate to me, I'm a free and grown woman!!" :) And about the whole narcistic argument, it may sound extreme but my attitude is...so what! I'm not promoting that people act stuck up toward one another, but what's wrong with liking yourself and feeling great about yourself anyway??! We live in a world where many women don't like themselves or how they look. Many, many have low self-esteems reinforced by Hollywood's "standards", or because they are overweight. Many still base their worth on male attention or what others think. So when you are working so hard to be healthier, stronger, and yes...better looking for YOU what's wrong with enjoying it?!! Bring on the narcissism!!! Love yourselves girls, and be proud of your efforts!! As for the gym vs. Cathe, I think to each their own. Whatever brings the most enjoyment, do it!! There's no right or wrong way to be active.
