The Time Traveler's Wife...reviews?

Hi everyone!! I wanted to ask if anyone had any reviews on this book? I just finished The Historian (GREAT book!!) and Skylight Confessions (good book, but too, too sad and depressing!!). I'm on to the Thirteenth Tale (which got some mixed reviews here, so my expectations are low). Also, if anyone enjoyed The Historian, could you give some recommendations of similar books? I've read most of Anne Rice's vampire novels and most recently Twilight, which I thought was more for teenagers.

TIA :)

I read The Time Traveler's Wife when it first came out. My poor feeble mind doesn't remember a whole lot of detail, but I do remember loving the book. It was one of those stories you hate to see end. I hope you enjoy it too.

AMAZING book! Someone on the forum suggested it to me a year or two ago (Shelly, maybe???) and I absolutely loved, loved, loved it! In fact, I loaned it to one of my sisters-in-law and she loaned it to her sister, who loaned it to their other sister, who loaned it to a friend....and so on...and so on....I've not seen it since. Too bad, I'd love to give it another read.

It's absolutely NOTHING like a vampire book.

After about the first 100 or so pages, I skipped to the end of the book and read it backwards for about 50 more pages. When I reallized I wasn't interested in the ending, I lost interest in the rest of the book.

Amazon.com has a lot of reviews. It's a great place to browse other's opinions on any particular book/moveie/music, etc. When I read reviews there, I usually read them "worst rated to best rated".

My book club just read this and had our discussion a few short weeks back. Good book. I think, from front to back, it took me 2 days to read. I couldn't put it down!

From somebody here I read In Cold Blood by Truman Capote and really liked it. I was afraid it would be too gory, but it was extremely well written. I just finished The Double Bind by Chris Bohjalian and liked it. I also enjoyed The Thirteenth Tale because it has such a unique plot. I haven't read The Time Travelers Wife but plan to read it.

I read Time Traveler's Wife a couple of years ago, and I liked it a lot, and I'm not usually impressed with much of the newer fiction.

"In Cold Blood" is an amazing book...I also recommend that, after reading it, you check out "Mockingbird: A Portrait of Harper Lee," by Charles J. Shields. It goes into a lot of detail about the notes (with actual exerpts)that Lee took while helping Truman Capote with the research, and how instrumental she was in getting the towns people to open up to them. Of course, Capote was very stingy in giving her any credit...great writer, tortured soul, but he really could be a little a$$hole.

What did you think of Capote and of Phillip Seymour Hoffman? I haven't seen it but I do really like him as an actor.

Carolyn

Five minutes into the film, I forgot that Phillip Seymour Hoffman existed...Truman Capote was alive and on the screen. PSH deserves all the accolades he got for that performance. He was built nothing like Capote at that age, and, come on, that voice could have easily made a character into a characture. But it worked on all levels.

I had read the novel years ago, but re-read it, as well as sections pertaining to the book and its film version in George Plimpton's Capote biography, before seeing the movie. (I got a little obssessed) They really did a great job with it...and the black & white aspect was a nice touch.

I've read the book as well, a LONG time ago. Maybe I should pull it out again. I knew that PSH would do a brilliant job. I think though he was up against Joaquin Phoenix (SOOO cute and a vegan to boot!), who was PERFECT in Walk the Line and I felt a little bad for him.

The Time Traveler's Wife is a "must read." I literally could not put this book down. It was absolutely compelling. I loved the fresh, creative handling of time travel. Clare and Henry's relationship is fascinating and the sequence of events is engaging! This book is one of my favorite "current" books.

My aunt actually just gave me this book b/c she loved it, but I haven't read it yet either :)

I just finished "The Fingersmith" by Sarah Waters and that was a FANTASTIC read!

Before that I read "The Evidence Against Her" (the name of the author escapes me, except it was a woman and had "Robb" somewhere in there, lol). That was also a great book, quiet, beautiful---with some of the most compelling characters and evocation of place.

I'm right in the middle of "Water for Elephants" and it is excellent so far.

I really found the Time Traveler's Wife to be wayyy too confusing for me to keep up with what was happening. By the end of the book, I was just glad it was over, because my brain was in knots trying to place things in a comprehensible sequence.

I really loved the book until the last few chapters. I did enjoy the book overall, it just kind of took a turn for me toward the end.

If your looking for a spooky book, Heart Shaped Box by Stephen King's son is getting great reviews. The plot seems very interesting.

If you like period novels, A Year of Wonders is also great. It's about the plague and is a bit dark, but worth a read.

On another recommendation from here, I just finished reading The Queen's Fool by Philippa Gregory and it was one of the best historical fiction I have read . I plan to read more by her. I had forgotten about the movie Capote and asked my husband to put it on the Netflixs list.
Ellen

If you enjoyed The Queen's Fool, you will love The Other Boleyn Girl by Philippa. It's one of the best books I've ever read. It's been a few years since I've read it, but I remember I didn't move from the couch for a few days, I could not put the book down. There is a sequel to the book too, called The Boleyn Inheritance, which now that you reminded me, I need to go buy.
