The Terminator and other questions?!

Cathlete
Hello everyone! I will be purchasing a DVD player and would appreciate advise towards my next Cathe purchases. I currently own the following videos: MIS, Interval Max, Circuit Max, Body Max, Step Heat, and Rhythmic Step. I have a ton of other tapes by other people also, but they seem so boring next to Cathe. I will keep them for variety later. My question is what to buy next to compliment my current Cathe collection. I was looking at the following DVD's but will probably only be able to purchase two right now: The Terminator, The Intensity Series Vol. 1 & 2, and The Classics Vol. 1.

If I purchased The Terminator DVD (which looks like wicked fun to me) would the three workouts on there count as Cardio and Weights? If I did one workout from the Terminator on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday what type of workout would I do on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday with Sunday being a rest day? Would I do strength or lower intensity cardio?

Any suggesstions as to what I should buy next to compliment my current collection will be so appreciated. Thanks and I hope everyone has a great day!

This post looked so lonely . . .

IMHO, if you were to do Terminator workouts Mon., Wed. and Fri., you'd be well served to use the other workout days for lighter cardio AND heavier, focused weight training like PUB and PLB. All of the Terminator workouts incorporate resistance cycles, so they're much more like circuit-style, Cardio-Weights routines, and that will have limited value in strength training.

Not knowing what you have right now, I can't offer any suggestions for what you should get for Cathe DVD's, however, I WILL suggest that if you have the sheckles for it, go for a 5-disc programmable DVD player rather than a single-disc one. DH and I invested in one this past December, and the number of options for Cathe mix-n-matches among multiple discs has created a small revolution in my workout program. I think you'll find the same, especially if you get The Intensity Series, The Terminator and the other one you mentioned.

Hope this helps -

Thanks A-jock!

I really appreciate the information. I currently only own six videos by Cathe and I enjoy them so much. I own MIS, Circuit Max, Interval Max, Body Max, Step Heat, and Rhythmic Step. I can't wait to get more! I want them all, but have to take it slow. Your information was really helpful! If you have any ideas about what my next purchase should be to compliment the six videos I already have feel free to share! Have a great day!

RE: A-Jock's Collection

Hello, Angela! I'll just list out my current collection, which I guard with my life! (Just love 'em - just love 'em)

Rhythmic Step / Interval Max / Maximum Intensity Cardio DVD
Power Hour / Maximum Intensity Strength / Body Max DVD
Cross-Train Express DVD
Circuit Max / Cardio Kicks DVD
(note: you can purchase CTX and Circuit Max / Cardio Kicks as a combo order and save a few sheckles)
Ab Hits DVD
The Intensity Series
The Terminator

If our house were ever to catch fire, my Cathe Collection would be the only thing I'd run back into the burning building for!

The way each of these DVD's is chaptered, even prior to Intensity Series, enables mix n match options that are through the roof. And the Intensity Series and Terminator are even more finely chaptered, and include an incredible number of separate premixes and bonus features.

In this rocky economic times, spending hard-earned money must be carefully considered. However, buying any Cathe DVD is money well spent, and the return on investment is awesome.

Angela,
I don't know your fitness level, but I would be concerned about overtraining and overuse injuries if you use the Terminator workouts three times a week. I'd stick to one or two a week--leaving at least two days between these intense workouts--and see how that feels.

Thanks Kathryn! I don't own the Terminator so I really don't know what I'm talking about. I was trying to already thinking ahead to how I would rotate them into my small collection. I'm sure once I order and preview I'll have a better idea. I love what I have and just can't wait to order more. I guess I should get a DVD player first! My husband is going to help me pick one out this week so I hope to order some Cathe DVD's soon!

Thank you too Annette for your reply. You guys have a terrific day!

I have the terminator series and absolutely love it!!!!!!!!!!!! I have had to be careful though with overtraining. I am careful what I put before and after them. Here is a summary of how I use them...

Imax Extreme - I often use as just pure kick butt cardio. Today I did it and skipped thru 90% of the wt portions since I did ME yesterday. Other days I will use light wts and use it as a more overall body workout.

Viper - I use as a mix of Cardio and upper body wts primarily. On these days I usually go heavy on the wts so it counts as a upper body wt day. Sometimes if I am too sore from legs prior I skip the leg portion or do light weights on legs. Even though it has legs in it it definitely has more of an upper body focus. I have even put 1 body part of PS or S&H with this one sometimes too.

Gauntlet - I would put this in the same class of boot camp. It is a great overall body workout! A blast! I usually go pretty light on the wts on this one too.

I use a terminator video at an average 2 times per week and it is working great! Sometimes I use it 3 but the third day is always the Imax Extreme with only cardio.

Like I said... be careful with this series. When I first got it I was working otu like crazy.... was at risk of injury due to over training and eating like mad. I wound up having to take more rest days than I usually do due to soreness and over training. I lost wt when I started the series but then hit a plateau. Now I have backed off and have been more careful not to work the same muscle group 2 days in a row and have seen double the results and I am working out less hours a day! I am again focusing on intensity and frequency, not duration in hours! Plus I am ensuring my muscles have adaquate time to rejuvenate in between workouts. I am also taking EAS Betagen and that seems to help with recovery.

Oh yeah... I also love the stability part of PLB. It goes great as a split with other videos. Lastnight I did it after ME and only did the outer and inner thigh portion since ME doesn't really work the inner/outer thigh.

Hope this helps! E-mail me if you want and I can e-mail you my spreadsheet where I have been tracking my workouts. You could use it too. Also, you can see what caused me to go into overtraining.... you'll notice by the frequency in rest days!

Good luck and have fun! You are going to LOVE these videos!!!!!
