THE SNOW!!! My poor back!

MarlaGaz

Just woke up to an AMAZING amount of snow! And now I have to go shovel (dh is out of town -- in Georgia). My poor, poor, back.

Anybody have a snowblower I can borrow? :p

It's still coming down like a blizzard, too!!! ;(

I've a feeling I'll be shoveling alllllll day.

Wah.

Marla G.

Marla, where are you? Can't lend our snowblower, the snow is coming here to New england next. Almost 2 feet expected.

I wish I could help you. I love shovelling snow! It's a great workout...but...I, uh usually wait until it stops snowing first!:) All I have in my day's line-up is cleaning house - and I hate cleaning the house. Reminds me a saying in one of my cookbooks "Cleaning the house while the kids are still growing is like shovelling the walk while it's still snowing."

I'll trade you - you clean my house and I'll shovel?

Trish

Hey Marla! I'm in Michigan too. No way I'm shovelling yet. I'll wait until after noon when the snow stops coming down. Be careful.

shopaholic -- I'm in Michigan. We got A LOT of snow! More than we were supposed to get.

Trish -- Um, I'd actually rather shovel snow, too. :) If I wait until it stops, I'm afraid it'll be way too heavy for me to shovel. We really got dumped on. It's already looking like 10" -- and it's still coming down fast and furious.

A few days ago I shoveled for an hour, then did Body Max. I was whipped! :p

I bought some new Pilates DVDs last night, so that might be the ticket later -- when I'm done shoveling.

Okay ... must go out ...

Can't borrow ours. It is snowing like crazy here in Ohio. Everything is covered in about a foot of snow and it is supposed to continue all day. There is not a stitch of road to be seen outside right now and it is actually pretty. Not sure how bad the roads will be when we travel to the movies tonight??? I must confess though: we live in a condo and don't HAVE to shovel. They do it for us. But, DH loves to get out there anyway and "play" with the snowblower since he does it BETTER! :7

So why are you guys getting more snow than we do? I live in the great white Canadian north and we've only received a couple inches. The old-timers all talk about lots of snow way back when but I sure haven't seen it. It's tons colder the last few years though. I hope noone takes offense but I'm all for global warming! Bring out the aerosol cans...warm this place up...ok. I should just shut up and go clean my house.

Trish

Oh I have to add one more silly comment that made me giggle. I was buying groceries yesterday and I ran into a very elderly man I know. I asked him how the roads were because it rained (yes, rain! in Jan. in Canada!) and then the temp dropped to -30C with a nasty wind making the highways a nightmare. He said without a smile "The roads are great - if you can stay on them." I have no clue from his expression whether he meant to be funny but I thought it was funny...ok now I'll go cleam my house.

Trish

We have a ton here also. I love shoveling! I do get sore in my lower back and it makes me so hungry, though!

Trish - I love that quote - I think about it all the time! I do shovel when it's snowing just to avoid having to shovel too much snow at once, and I have 4 kids so my house is never clean for more than a minute! I thought that quote came from Phyllis Diller - funny how it was in a cookbook!

Erica

Trish!

That IS funny! Ha! Is your house clean YET???

Hey Erica!

Hi neighbor! It's beautiful out, isn't it? And, I am NOT one to like the snow because of driving on the bad roads. I think after all the rain and mud we have had the past month, it's just nice to see WHITE! Stay safe and warm and give those cutie-pies a BIG hug!

Good Luck shoveling Marla,

You poor thing! Your DH is out of town right now? UGH! Do I feel bad for you! Can't you hire a neighborhood kid to help you out?:)

When we are expecting a lot of snow around here we shovel as it comes down also. Makes for an easier, lighter load and then you aren't out there for hours and hours at a time...breaks it up...it's not so bad that way...I just woke up and we are getting flurries...wasn't supposed to start until atleast noon!!! I guess if it's stays flurries until then, it'll be fine.

Forecast for here in Jersey is nuts! 10-15 inches for southern jersey up to around my area, 18-24 inches for much of central jersey and like 20-30 inches for northern jersey and new york! Holy Cow! I think we are sitting on the line between the 10-15 and the 18-24 so it'll be interesting to see what we end up with!

God, by the end of the day I am gonna have cabin fever soooo bad!:( I was actually thinking of breaking up my work out today...making it about 90 mins instead of an hour and doing it in 1/2 hour segments spread through out the day so that I can have something to amuse me. I can spend 24 hours in my hours and not blink an eye at times BUT as soon as you tell me I can't go out...oh, that's it! INSTANT cabin fever! lol...I think I'll make a big pot of sauce and then make lasagna...that sounds like a good "snowed in" activity also!:9

Okay, I'm babbling now!:p :p :p LOL

Have a great work out!

Hi Debbie!

It really is pretty! Like you, I hate driving in it. I'm a big chicken. I'm one of those awful people who drive way too slow in the snow and back up traffic.

Hope you get out to the movies tonight!

Erica

RE: Hi Debbie!

You're very smart to drive slow. I'm a scaredy cat too. I figure they can go around me because I don't take chances. Thanks, we HOPE to make it to the movies.

RE: Hi Debbie!

In PA it started coming down around 4 a.m......I got up at 5:30 a.m. and have been out there shoveling about every 2 hours!!!! I don't want it to get toooooo deep that I can't see the light at the end of the tunnel......wait.......is there a light? lol

We are expected to get 12-15" by tomorrow morning.......so, I'll just keep shoveling!!! DH is home, but I told him I'll do it....gotta add on those workout mins....lmao....I already have the Italian Wedding soup simmering on the stove....so will be good to dip into that for lunch and dinner.

Keep Warm, everyone!!!

RE: Hi Debbie!

I am sooooo bummed to hear of all your snow .Send it here to Idaho ,The mountains here need it BAD ! Ummm another sunny day and I bet it hits 45 degrees again like yesturday .Its melting fast .:-( :-( I want to go skiing !!!!!!:)

Like Shopaholic, we're in waiting mode here in New York.
PLEASE be careful with that shoveling, Marla!! My back hurts just thinking about you. :(

RE: Hi Debbie!

Mary -- you would love this snow. It's beautiful -- not heavy and wet, but light and powdery. It's really pretty. Good thing -- there's a lot of it. :)

It took me about 90 minutes to shovel the driveway. Two neighbors came over with their snowblowers and did my sidewalk and where my driveway meets the street (totally packed from the snowplow driver this morning).

Wendy -- all little kids here. None of them are old enough yet to handle a snow-shoveling job. BTW, I sent you a private message. Did you get it?

Okay -- going out for round 2 of snow shoveling. :7

Marla G.

Thanks, Nancy! My back is a little tight -- but I'm being careful.

Thankfully, the snow is not wet. If it was, there would be no way I'd attempt it.

If I figure it out later, I'll start a picture trail and post some pictures there of all our snow.

Being out in the fresh air is nice!

Marla G.

It just started coming down pretty heavy here in Philadelphia too. DH & I will be taking turns later with the shoveling. Take care of that back Marla!! Maybe some stretching to loosen up the tightness later??

Aila:)
