The snow just turned to rain :-(

Applause for all of you who can put up with crappy weather. I'm amazed!!!

I'm a bit like Pinky out here in CA... but don't forget, we get earthquakes... sometimes... (LOL Nancy, I'd still take the chance on earthquakes!!) ;-)

So how many layers does that mean you guys dress in to go out? Yesterday I had on pants and a tee shirt (long sleeved) and forgot my coat and was a little cold, but put up with it since it was all my fault for forgetting...

Sure, rub it in about how you get to wear t-shirts and shorts year-round!! ;-)

Let's see...on Wednesday, when the wind chill was in the 20s, I had on long pants, boots, a sleeveless top under a long-sleeved cotton sweater, a scarf, my hooded short down jacket, a wool hat, and thick gloves. I was kind of cold, actually. Cotton sweaters aren't great in the cold wind; you really need wool. Also, my pants were way too thin for the weather. It's hard dressing for 20 degree winds and then going into an overheated office.

That's why I asked- I couldn't figure out how you can dress to go outside to get someplace AND how to dress for being whereever you got.

(yah english major here, lawyer in training. no writing needs betterment- i'm on VACATION!! LOL)

And I DON'T wear shorts and t-shirts all year round. But there are several around here who do... I've been here most of my life (moved from Michigan at age 3) so 60 degrees is COLD to me!

And yes, I see you rolling your eyes at me!! :p

I totally agree with Bunbun. It is difficult to dress for such extremes, and my office is also kind of overheated. For that reason, I have a lot of sweater sets. They consist of wool tank tops with matching wool cardigans. I also keep several pairs of shoes under my desk at work. This morning I wore nylon socks with big heavy socks over them with my snow boots. When I got to the office, I removed the snow boots and the heavy socks and slipped into a pair of regular shoes. It sounds like a lot of planning, but actually it becomes pretty automatic once you have the whole routine down.

Like everything else in life, it seems to be all about the shopping. If you have all the right stuff, life is simple. The difficult part is all the !@#$%^&*() serious shopping. I love fun shopping, but serious shopping is hard work. I go all over town until I find just the right thing, and it takes forever. I hate every minute of it, but in the end it's usually worth the effort.

I have lived in this kind of weather all my life and STILL don't have the planning down! Eg, I have two pairs of sort of dressy boots, but can't wear either of them in the snow. My snow "boots" are actually short, ankle-length things. So if it's snowing/yucky in any sort of way in the winter, I wind up wearing pants and those boots, and I wear them all day long cause I don't keep extra shoes at the office--too lazy and also my office is casual so noone cares. I really need a pair of knee-high snow boots, so that I can wear my skirts more often in the winter, but then I think, well, I can't wear the knee-high snow boots in the office all day because they'll be too hot--which means I need to take shoes to the office, which will make my totebag ridiculously heavy or I'll have to leave my one pair of dressy shoes in the office...and then my brain overheats with trying to plan it all and I'm back to wearing jeans and ankle-boots!

As for the dressing for 20 degrees outside/85 inside, layers layers layers. Since it turned cold I have been stripping down to my t-shirts in the office all day long (which is ironic, given that in the summer the AC was so cold that I wound up wearing my winter sweaters). My t-shirts and shells/tanks are now starting to look worn out from so much use, and I have been desperately searching stores for short sleeves and tanks--in the middle of December.

I think I just need to move someplace warm!

LOL Bunbun! :D It seems like it's almost become a fact of life in New York that you wear your summer wardrobe in the winter, and your winter wardrobe in the summer. It's pretty funny.

And as far as moving to someplace warm, I think about it too. But when it comes down to it, you know you love the seasons. Life would just be too boring without the constant changes. We're NYers. Without adversity, we just wouldn't know what to do with ourselves. :+

<< We're NYers. Without adversity, we just wouldn't know what to do with ourselves>>

That explains how all those 20- and 30-somethings wear cute skirts in the freezing cold. I tried that the other day: wool skirt, thick tights, boots, and a knee-length coat--I nearly froze my butt off!! ouch!

Amy-
Do you west-coasters ever have to shop for anything? Or do you just wear the same stuff all year round? I'm envious of people who don't have to shop.
