The results of bodybuilding...

She does steriods and other stuff, they all do at that level. You cannot reach that level of leaness without them, its not natural.

Look at the difference between a natural bodybuilder in a contest and one that isn't. Big difference. I used to compete, never did drugs, ever. And never was able to achieve the leanness and muscle separation that the other gals did at the national level. I agree, it is a freak show now, even the fitness competitors take drugs, sure not all of them, but alot do which is why the physique contests that are so popular are a welcome relief, at least these women still look like women.

I like lean and defined, not defined, huge and manly. Thats just gross.

tneah- IA. My first thought was that this woman(?) is loaded up with steroids. My second thought was that she looked awful.

I love a strong natural body. But going over the line to the hulkish unnatural masculine look is unappealing and un-healthy IMO .

BTW Debbie- Your avatar looks great. :) I had not seen it in a while.

I'm soo with you all on this one. My husband might puke if I looked like that! I realize that she worked extremely hard for that, but it is NOT for me. I don't even think I want half that. Too extreme. Do they really all do steroids and supplements at that level? If so, I was not aware of that. I thought they did drug testing. Shows how much I know!

I'm with Deb on this one also. This does not gross me out at all. I love the way she looks.

If I knew how to do that I would give it a try myself. I haven't a clue how to though. When I look up things on how to build muscles, I just get confused. Kelly Nelson, another famous bodybuilder is in her late 70's or very early 80's by now and looks much like this woman bodybuilder. She has won numerous competitions and as far as I know still doing it. Her daughter also competes with her and she is in her late 40's maybe very early 50's.

Perhaps something to look into. Hmmmmmmm

Whether or not you like the look of her, you have to admit it's impressive. I'm amazed that a woman was able to get her body to look like that.

Yeah, but it's also the result of steroids. Women do not have the testosterone (without help) to look like that. Here's her website....
http://www.yaxeni.com/biography.html

...look how masculine her face is. It's lost all the softness of being female. That's what steroids do too. And not that there's anythig wrong with that, if someone wants to put a legal drug into their system, that's their business. I'm just pointing out this look did not come naturally.

Non-competition picture

Here's a non-competition picture of Yaxeni:

You can definitely see in her face that her body fat levels are at a higher (maybe sustainable?) level. IMO, this is a much better and stronger look.

The super-shredded appearance in the Arnold Classic photo, while it's meant to showcase muscles for the judges, screams "unhealthy" to me in the same way that super-skinny super models do.

RE: Non-competition picture

She looks sooooo much nicer in that picture Gayle! Still a little too buff for me (she'd scare the crap out of my DH), but much healthier looking. And her skin is actually a color found in nature. Not sure why all body builders put that crap all over them at competitions. I can understand a little bronzer, but geez, she looked like she'd been marinated in something in the original pic. IF she is indeed taking steroids to get that physique, then I think there is absolutely nothing for her to be admired for. She wrecking her body and her health. Again that's if she's taking performance enhancers - which last thing I heard those were "illegal" (for competition here at least - maybe not in Venezuela).

RE: Non-competition picture

Thanks for the compliments everyone. :)

It is VERY hard to stay that lean and it is unhealthy for sure. I just meant that I like the way she looks. There is NO WAY you can stay that low with body fat for too long without health risks.

I also agree that she is taking steroids or supplementing in a very dangerous way. That is why I said I could never get that way, I would never do that.

There is so much controversie on this subject. I guess it comes down to what you want for YOUR BODY. I honestly don't think my dh would like me looking that way either! LOL!

RE: Non-competition picture

Lol, Debbie, my DH said if I ever looked like I could bench press him, he's outta here! ;)

RE: Non-competition picture

I prefer the natural bodybuilding contests, although even some of those have people who have done steriods but tested clean for the past 6months or so. Sure they "test" but well, you know, its expected at the national level that everyone does them in one form or another.

Its just stupid to do, especially if you are a woman. It ruins your voice, your female parts can "grow" yes,its true, not to mention all the other things. Sure you build huge muscles, and get super lean, but at what cost to your looks and your health?

I am so glad I never put that crap into my body. Debbie, you look incredible right now.

Anyway! Just another two of my cents thrown in.;)

RE: Non-competition picture

Liann - My dh says the same thing! He already says my arms are bigger then his! LOL!

Tneah (love your name) - I prefer the natural bodybuilders as well. Steriods plays such a huge role in the professional field that it's scary. However, I never did understand why steroids is illegal. If one wants to ruin their body, then have at it. Tell me the football and basketball players of the professional levels aren't all on steroids. You know?

Whatever. Touchy subject, sometimes it's just as bad as talking politics. LOL!!!

RE: Non-competition picture

The big problem with steroids now is that it isn't just a pro sports issue. More and more high school athletes, men and women, are using them and it's having terrible effects.

During the Roger Clemens carnival in DC a few weeks ago, a couple testified about their teenage son who committed suicide due to steroid induced depression. He was using steroids to try and "beef up" for baseball season.

RE: Non-competition picture

Wow. I'm learning more and more every time I read this post. I truly didn't realize that she had or is taking steroids. Well, I'm for natural body building, and for that matter natural anything.

The newer picture was more pleasant to look at.

I'm always learning, it's just a never ending job.

Great info everyone, thanks.

RE: Non-competition picture

Debbie, thanks for the name compliment.:) Yeah, steroids are a touchy subject, but I'm with you, have at it, its your body, your health, if thats the route you wanna go, then take responsibility for your actions and be prepared to live with the repercussions right?

This is a pic of me back when I did the Emerald Cup. Since we were on the subject of bodybuilding, thought I would share. I was all natural, as you can see, I do not have the extreme muscularity or leanness of the Ms. Brazil lady at all. I worked my ass off to get this lean, it was horrible, but glad I did it. It was back in the 90's so please forgive the hair thing. I posted this pic in the melters thread before, so I don't want you guys to think I am bragging or showing off, just wanted to expound on the natural versus steriods in bodybuilding. I am proud I did it though. What is funny though, it looks like Jai and Cathe stay this lean all the time! My hat is off to all of Cathe's crew, but those two really are lean aren't they?
;)

RE: Non-competition picture

tneah - WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You looked amazing!

We all had that hair thing in '90s. :D :D

RE: Non-competition picture

HOLY CRAP! Tneah you look totally AWESOME!!! Thanks for sharing, that is truly amazing!!!! How did you place?

Truth be told, I don't have the guts to compete. Everyone says I should but I just can't see myself on stage!

RE: Non-competition picture

Tneah, you look fantastic in that picture! Well, except for the bad 90's hair. ;) I can't even imagine how hard you had to work to look like that!!!

RE: Non-competition picture

> she looked like she'd been marinated in

LMAO! That is exactly how she looks -- she's ready for the grill! YUCKO!

The close up picture Gayle put up was soooo much better, although still too buff for me. She looked human in it and female!
