The "No Sweets" Check-In - June 5, 2005

RE: The

Shelley,
Don't worry about it! I'm sure the metabolism fairy visited you in the middle of the night and your thighs don't even know the Coke was in your body;) Just be glad you haven't had the weekend (yes WEEKEND) of poor eating that I have. I however have not technically "cheated" b/c I never planned on joining you killjoys until Monday anyway. Today is my birthday and calories consumed in or around your birthday don't count:7 My 'month' will last from June 5th until July 5th, so save some room on that wagon for me come Monday. But today? I'm off to get birthday treats!
Congratulations to everyone who's given up the sweets, even if you've 'cheated' you guys have totally inspired me to at least try something I never thought that I could do and to see how much my body thanks me!
Good luck and encouragement to everyone!
Mattea

RE: The

:) oh I have been doing well, but my fiance made jello no bake cheesecake, and i had some for BREAKFAST Today! lol that time of the month... i still cant believe i did it, it was like on spoon in, and a whole bunch gone. well, i WILL do better for the rest of the day :)

RE: The

Mattea-Happy Birthday! Go forth and enjoy. See ya here monday :)

Shelley- A coke! You cheated with a coke! Personally I would have cheated with something better then that! Some thing with sugar and fat:) IMO you did good and are still on the right track.

Tina- Kill The boyfreind get a new one :)

So far so good for me. I am off now to go watch my son skydive. Let's hope there is no weather hold today or I may scream and run to the nearest town and gobble up the first fattening sugary thing I see!

RE: The

It's still early, but I've made it through breakfast without burrowing my face in a bowl of ice cream. I want to lose about 5lbs before the road trip, since I gained about 5lbs over the past 6 weeks due to stress and not exercising at my normal level. The roadtrip and the No Sweets Challenge are my motivators to drop that weight!

Shelley- A Coke? You're fine. If you had said Dr. Pepper, I would have laid into you, though. ;-)

RE: The

It is still early, but I should do okay today. I will be on a sugar high for a day or two from the feeding frenzy yesterday (sharks have nothing on me!!) I am a fanatic about my weight and I gained 4 1/2 lbs. according to the scale (always weight in the a.m. when I get up in the buff) from yesterday. I think this from holding a lot of water from the carb fest yesterday but it still stresses me. I am going to think up some adequate punishment}( to compensate for yesterday..... How about all three workouts on the Terminator.... and maybe a run later. .... hopefully I'll have enough energy to dial 911 afterwards....:+

RE: The

Great job everyone! Happy Birthday Mattea! You are absolutley right, any damage you do doesn't count on your special day! Hope you have a fun day. I have done great since we started. Nooo cheats, other then my fatree coffee creamer each day. (Cannot give that up.) We went to the theater last nite and I did eat popcorn (one of my fav treats of all)but passed up the red licorice and honey roasted cashews that my DH & in-laws were chowing down. Of course, I had to hear from my MIL that I should not be on a diet. I am tooo thin. I am NOT too thin! Grrr. I told her I wasn't on a diet just trying to watch my sweets-intake. Now mind you, the THREE that WERE eating the sweets are all diabetic! Something wrong with this picture, eh??? Good Luck everyone. Only 25 days to go!

RE: The

Many happy birthday wishes to you, Mattea!! My birthday celebrations tend to last at least a couple days, too. I love to celebrate ME! :p Enjoy celebrating YOU!! :)

RE: The

Delicious cake for a baptism and graduates at church and I did not eat any. The one thing I have noticed is that I give my kids treats and then lick my fingers absentmindedly and that is what gets me craving and then eating poorly. This week I have stopped myself before I lick!

Also ran/walked 4.5 miles this morning!

Is it the fact that we are all in this together, or do I really have will power? (I never thought that I had much!)

RE: The

Three workouts from the Terminator indeed.... almost through the Viper, had to stop and get water and breathe a second. Oh my gosh.... what a workout...

Happy Birthday Mattea!

Debbie ~ I can't give that coffee creamer up either. And my MIL along with my friends have been saying the same thing about dieting and being too thin! I've been saying the same thing. The response I get is that you don't need to do that. My response has been if I'm doing something that makes me feel healthier than how can it be so bad. They usually don't know what to say after that. It's really starting to get on my nerves though.

Today should be good because we're going to the pool. I'm so busy chasing my two year old around the pool, I don't even have time to get a drink of water, so sweets won't be a problem. I'll probably pack an apple though. I have been extra hungry for some reason. Does your metabolism increase with weight work?

Have fun everyone.

Dallas

Edited to say - A Coke, Shelley!! I wouldn't worry about that.

RE: The

I think it's a little of both--willpower AND the fact that we're doing it together. I think knowing we have to account to others, gives us the willpower to keep going. Also by doing it this way for a month, we might be building up our willpower to continue watching our intake on our own, after June. Who cares how we're doing it, as long as it works! :)

Good job on the no finger licking!

RE: The

I was just packing my apple and I thought I would bring some crackers too for the pool. Wheatables and Wheat Thins have always been my favorite, but I'm taking Triscuits instead. Did you know that Triscuit's have no added sugar? I didn't.

Learn something new every day!

RE: The

Ate watermelon last night and of course I got up twice to the bathroom. It's nothing but water anyway. Today I still haven't made that trip to the grocery store, so all I had to eat was yogurt. Then went to the lake and had sandwich with lowfat peanut butter and A yogurt.

This is where I need you ladies, I am in thirty minutes going to that wedding shower. I have to say away from those sweets. I think I can do it. I wanted a soda so bad today, but I resisted.

Will let you know this evening how it went.

RE: The

Happy Birthday Mattea!!!

I had a breakdown and ate a handfull of chocolate chips. They didn't even taste that great. Thankfully the bag (5Lb)is almost gone so it won't be around to tempt me much longer.

I'll keep up the best I can.

RE: The

Thanks for all of the birthday wishes! You guys are amazing and your experiences are really getting me psyched to give this a try. I need the detox after this weekend! I've had so much donuts, ice-cream, and pizza that I don't want ANY more. At least not this week! LOL. Anyway, I'm climbing back on the vegan wagon tomorrow as well as the no sweets wagon so I hope I can manage both:eek:
My MIL gave me 12# and 20# weights for my b-day, my parents gave me HRM, but they gave it to me months ago so I wouldn't have to wait. My husband gave me 2 CD's, Vegan Planet Cookbook, Small-Batch Baking Cookbook (which is a amazing and sinful, but at least you only have one or two servings around and then it's all gone! If anyone wants a recipe let me know.) He also gave me Trivial Pursuit-Book Lover's Edition and a comedy hour DVD. Nothing fitness related (except the Cathe Roadtrip!-He says he loves me just the way I look. He's the best!!:* He's coming on the Roadtrip with me, personal masseuse and all:p )
Positive thoughts!

RE: The

Hey guys, I am so proud of myself! I just got back from the wedding shower. I did not eat not even one piece of cake or anything. My aunt offered me a piece of cake and I said no thank you. What I did eat was some cucumbers, baby midget pickles and broccoli. And it was actually good. Well there comes the drink. My aunt said we have regular soda, diet or punch. I ask for a glass of water and she looked at me like I was crazy. So my water and veggies kept me from that wicked cake. I left there not regreting that I didn't eat any junk.

I am determined that I will make it for 30 days. Ladies I have never turned down any kind of shower cake or any occasions. All of you are my inspiration.

Still have supper and rest of night to go.
