The new Batman Begins was very, very good!

I'm not a big super hero fan but we decided to go see the new Batman movie on Saturday. IMHO, it was outstanding. It was not cartoonish at all. I found Christian Bale's performance captivating.

It was a much darker Batman character than the last few. More akin to Michael Keaton's performance. The director strove to make the Batman details as realistic as possible. I highly recommend the movie.

By the way. DH and I rented another movie this weekend starring Christian Bail, "The Machinist". If you liked SAW, you'll like this one. Also a very dark tale. Christian Bale must have had to lose at least 30 lbs for this movie!

BTW, Katie Holmes looked like a twelve year old in this movie :D

RE: The new Batman was very, very good!

I've heard that this is very good. We were going to see it yesterday, but opted not to because I felt it might not be good for my 5 year old to see it in the theater. It might be too intense. She does well with these type movies at home. She loves "Frodo and Sam".

So DH and I will be seeing it on Friday. Of course, you all should already know how much I LOVE superheroes, especially Batman!

Donna,

You made a wise decision not to take your daughter. The ScareCrow scenes were very intense and would be very good nightmare material! Also, the part where Batman's parents are killed is very, very sad.

I saw it with Rich on Saturday and I liked it. I was rolling my eyes at him at first since it's not a film I would have chosen and I don't think I have seen any of the Batman films except the one with Michael Keaton. But I never get to chose the films anyway. I'm still waiting to see Star Wars last installment. I thought Batman was slow in the beginning while it set up his legend. It wanted to be very thorough! It paid off in the end when he was taking Gotham criminal names and kicking booty. Action! It had quite a few good laughs too. I loved all the famous faces like Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, Rutger Hauer and Morgan Freeman. Even Liam Neeson, although the League of Shadows (is that what it was called?) was a bit cartoonish, I thought. Did you think it set itself up perfectly for a sequel? :) Katie Holmes does nothing for me. She's cute but that's about it. Isn't she about 12? :D I have never been a Christian Bale fan but by the end of the film I was sold on him. Grrrrr! Those chiseled cheekbones!

I think Christian Bale has my vote for #1 hunk these days. After seeing him in The Machinist and then this one, his acting abilities are top notch also }(

RE: The new Batman was very, very good!

OOOOH! They have The ScareCrow as the villian? Cool! He was one of my favorites in the animated series.

RE: The new Batman was very, very good!

Candi, I read Bale had lost 60 pounds for The Machinist and had to pack the weight back on for Batman and was very weak and inclined to be ill coming off the film. Sounds like a good one. The Scarecrow fellow with his dreamy blue eyes was also considered for the part of Batman but Bale won out. And yep, he's a hunk and the world needs more hunks. I loved the voice he used. I haven't seen a good action packed adventure movie in ages and it was a fun. Rich had to lobby hard to get me out to dinner and a movie on a Saturday night since everyone goes out to dinner and a movie on Saturday night and I hate that. I didn't get to bed until midnight and I am such a fogey these days. That's the middle of the night. :D My middle child, Sydney, has been an only daughter since May 24 and we have had a lovely time seeing movies at the dollar theatre, renting movies for home, lunching, shopping and hanging out. Tomorrow Ali returns from Germany and it'll be back to three kids fighting again!

Wow, DH and I were trying to determine how much weight it was. I knew I was being conservative by 30...but 60 lbs. Yes, the blue eyes the other guy has are amazing. I remember him from 28 Days After or something like that.

I know what you mean, Bobbi. I am getting to be a fogey too these days. We're going to an Alanis Morrisette concert this Sunday evening. AGH! Staying out late before going to work on Monday...how could I?! Out of the comfort zone we go! I need that every once in awhile.

Sounds like your world has been loaded with changes this summer and quite an adventure. I think it's good for our world's to get shaken a bit every now and then.

I loved what Batman's father said to him after he fell down the well. "Bruce, why do we fall? It's to learn to pick ourselves back up." I'm keeping that one with me ;-)

I agree, very good! It wasn't my pick either, but I'm so glad that I saw it. I couldn't imagine that Scarecrow character as Batman. I'm glad Christian Bale was chosen. Donna, I'm so glad you didn't take your 5 year old. There were some pretty frightening parts for young ones.
Bobbi, I was turned into a Christian Bale fan by the end of the movie, too. What a cutie and he can act as well. Unlike are Darth Vader cutie. I forgot his name already.

Go see this movie, if you haven't yet!

That's a good one, Candi. :) Bruce's dad was so lovely! Allanis Morriesette, you lucky woman. I had to take Sydney to Phoenix to see The Mars Volta and I took ear plugs but it was so loud my chair vibrated and I could feel the noise. I retreated to the lobby, where I could hear the music perfectly. I chatted with the mother of a 15 year old who had also beaten a retreat. And I had to drive home from Phoenix after. I was like a rag the next day. Or a hag! Too little sleep or too much, both really take a toll. I have to figure out the perfect amount so I am fresh and clear skinned and eyed and not zombied out or looking like I slept on my face! LOL! The Mars Volta is returning to Phoenix with System of a Down and she HAS to go. Noooooo! And Ali wants to see the Backstreet Boys in August. Woe is me!

Hi, Dallas. His name is Hayden Christiansen. Don't know if I spelled that correctly. I never mind if I end up seeing most films on DVD but I think Revenge of the Sith could be a big screen movie. I loved Hayden in My LIfe as a House but he doesn't seem to be much of an actor. One of those wooden guys. Of course, Keanu Reeves gets that adjective too and I loved him in The Matrix. I was definitely glad we saw it. By the end, I was getting into all the excitement and I just wanted to smack Liam Neeson! :D

Yeah, but isn't great when Batman says,"I'm not going to kill you, but I'm not going to save you either..." to Liam Neeson at the end. That will teach him! }(
