hi cathe

according to calculation in my age 39 my max heart rate should be 155 per minute but in the circuit routine my heart get 170 and over (i have a pollar watch). my question if my heart go pass the max should i continue in the circuit or segment or should i modify and try not to go beyond 155.
it said that in this max heart beat u get the most effective burning of calories so if i pass the max what happens?

thank u

Hey Sharona!
Not Cathe, but I thought I might be able to help. Actually, the formula I've seen for calculating a max heart rate is 220- your age. This would put your max at 181. The polar calculates your heart rate "zone" which is 70-85% of your max. Since Cathe often has intervals in her workouts, it is perfectly normal for your heart rate to go out of the training zone during the intervals.
I think you are just fine at 170 and up to 180 or so, but you should check with your Dr. to make sure.

PS. I, too have a Polar HRM and wondered the same thing a while back!
