<--Thinks that Suzanne's very special and doesn't need a fancy 'do because her hair is SO pretty and curly. Seems that God already did all of the work!! :)

Since we last "spoke", my MIL went downhill mentally and physically quickly. Last week my SIL and I shared hospice duties for her because the hospice service only came once a day. My FIL would not assist in her care, so we took the situation and ran with it. After a week of 24 hour care, the exhaustion was too much for us and we began looking into other options. Her lungs are failing along with her kidneys and she has dementia. We both feared for her safety at home because FIL isn't capable (and will not) watch out for her. With heavy hearts, we talked to the hospice nurse and she convinced us that a nursing facility was the only choice. Friday evening, we transported her to the nursing facility which is 5 minutes from my home. We continue to visit with her as much as our schedules (work and family) allow. We don't want her to feel like we just dropped her off. She says many cruel and weird things, but we have resigned ourselves to the fact that the lady lying in the bed is not the mother we used to know. The entire situation has actually drawn my SIL's family and our family closer and that is good. My DH and BIL are saints in their own right. Although they couldn't and shouldn't provide care for her, they stood tall behind our decision. My FIL has continued to be a thorn in our sides due to his callous behavior and lack of love for her, but our families have decided to let Karma take care of that. All I can say is hug your family and remember that they can be taken from you in a heartbeat. I have also learned that the human spirit can endure most anything.
