The life expectancy of my step board...

I have had my step board for over 10 years. Is there a time I should replace it ? Or does it last forever ?

THANKS !!

RS424,

Not Cathe here, but you should inspect the tread on your board and the overall stability of the base. Is the tread still in place and not worn out? This is an important aspect of the safety of your step platform. If the tred is worn, you might consider replacing the tread or getting a new platform.

Secondly, you might check to see that there is no abnormal wear on the base of your step platform. If you use it without risers, does it still sit properly and stably on the floor? If the bottom of the board is warped or terribly worn, you should look into getting a new step platform.

Finally, check to make sure that the risers still fit underneath the board. If there are any questionable aspects, you might consider replacing the entire platform and/or getting new risers.

Hope this helps!

I'm not Cathe but I have had to tape down the black "no slip" portion on to my greenish club step. I use black duct tape. I have had my club step for 7 years.

I've had mine since 1990. About a year ago the black tread started to lift in the areas around the step logo on both sides. My step aerobics intensity kicked up notch when I discovered Cathe so I'm not sure if my step would have lasted as long had I been using Cathe from day one. But it has been used consistently by my DH and myself for all of these years, so it's quite sturdy.

The tread has lifted quite a bit more and I have considered buying duct tape to flatten it again. I was wondering if it would make the step slippery in those areas when I really start to sweat. But I see someone else has done it so I'll give it a try.

Back when I got my step from "1 800 say step" (it wasn't in stores back then) it came with a lifetime guarantee but the company, I believe, is different now. With all of the punishment it's taken over the past 17 years, getting a free replacement wouldn't feel right to me anyway. If you take care of your step, it will last a long long time. :7

I've had my step since 1995- it is a Reebok step and it is still in great condition. These steps have different risers than the original health club step (the one Cathe uses) and while they still work fine I notice that when I lift the step up they don't like to stay in anymore (they actually click into little groves so they are supposed to stay clicked in even when you pick it up and move it).

I've wanted to get a new one just because I really like the black and grey step and I have the tall step and would like to be able to interchange the risers to make my tall step taller or the club step taller for weight work but I just can't justify the cost when this one still works just fine.
