The Flu

Can you believe it? My fiance got the flu this week, was sick last Thurs and went to doc on Monday. Diagnosed with the flu. During Cardio Fusion Mon night, I didn't feel quite right. Sure enough, woke up with 100.9 fever Tues, Wed and today! Sore throat, achy, running nose, bad cough, eyes hurt, headache. This really stinks. I was really on a good role with my workouts! Just when my fever breaks, I realize it's due to meds as in 4 - 5 hours after taking the meds, it comes back and especially worse in the morning. Doc has me off work until Monday.

Anyone have the flu this year? Any relief tips you can give me? Will it go away soon? I'm missing my workouts bad!

TIA!!
Jane

Jane,
I feel your pain. I got sick on Wed. night, my stomach hurts, I have a fever, aches, cough, headache. My kids had this last weekend, I should have known it was coming my way. We are going to DisneyWorld in 12 days and I was determined to finish the Feb 07 Rotation before we left. I was really making progress. I have missed two workouts now. I guess I am really sick because I just don't care anymore. I just want to be feeling better for my trip.

I hope you recover soon. Drink lots and lots of water, or hot tea and steam in the shower, its supposed to help with removing viruses and bacteria from mucuos membranes (I just think it makes you feel good). Take advil or tylenol and don't let it wear off.

The flu typically lasts 7-10 days. I had it several years ago and I was glued to the couch for days. On Day 3, I had a slight respite and felt well enough to do some laundry and light cleaning. It landed me back on the couch, feeling worse than ever.

Do yourself a favor and take it really easy. Drink lots of fluids - warm broth and clear fruit juices worked best for me.

No other advice, they've said it all, but you have my sympathy. I had the flu 2 years ago and I remember being flat on my back for a week. It was horrible! After having it I understood why it can be so dangerous for the elderly and children. I almost had to be hospitalized for dehydration. Of course, being the vidiot that I am, I remember thinking the only thing I was upset about was not being able to workout!

Take care of yourself!

Thanks everyone for your well wishes! I was back at the doctor Fri as my fever was still 102 and I coughed so much I inflammed my chest. They checked for pneumonia/bronchitis and found none, which is good! It was just a bad case of the flu and that was to be my worst point. They gave me an inhaler and cough supressant. Since about noon yesterday, I stopped taking day quill and only did the inhaler (chest is much better now) and as of this morning, Sunday, I have had no fever since noon on Sat and with no meds!! Yeah!!!

So, all you Cathe lovers out there, you know my next question....can I try working out today - maybe weights? My family thinks I'm crazy, but they don't understand like we do. I was working out 6 days a week prior to this.

Can you relapse with the flu? or once the fevers gone, your body built antibodies?

TIA! Again, thanks for the well wishes, they worked!!:) :) :)

Your body is still recovering, I would not workout at all today. It's only been less than 24 hours since you had fever. You could over stress your body and wind up sick again. You do not want that. Maybe a short casual walk. But nothing more. Sorry, I know that's not what you want to hear. I am glad you are feeling better!!

Started feeling sick on Wed night. Yucky on Thursday and out flat on Friday. Felt better on Sat so did loads of laundry: bad move. Fever, cough and body aches all returned! I can't believe I got the flu soooo late in the season! I am doing nothing today!
