I have seen many of you talk about the firm. How many DVD's are there and what are they? Why do you like them?

Thank you in advance for any replies.

THE FIRM IS A COMPANY WHO MAKES VIDEOS OF CARDIO AND WEIGHT TRAINING.YOU CAN GO TO THE HOME PAGE htpp://www.firmdirect.com/. A LOT OF PEOPLE IN THESE FORUMS STARTED WITH THE WEIGHT TRAINING WITH THE FIRM AS I DID. I PREFER CATHE BECAUSE HER CARDIO IS MUCH BETTER, THE STEP OF THE FIRM IS SLOW AND BORING, AND HER WEIGHT TRAINING IS MORE INTENSE TO ME.CATHE IS MORE TOUGHT AND FUN.I PREFER CATHE BUT I PRESERVE THE OLD VOLUMEN 1.IF YOU WANT TO TRY THE FIRM GO TO THE OLD 6 FIRST VIDS.THE ACTUAL DVD OF THE FIRM DO NOT DESERVE YOU SPEND YOUR MONEY. ANYWAY I PREFER CATHE.I HATE THE MUSIC OF THE OLD 6 FIRM VIDS.IT IS HORRIBLE.

I started with The Firm and then eventually, moved on to Cathe. It's a great place to start I think. I didn't think there was enough cardio with the Firm workouts though.

But, when I moved on to Cathe my endurance levels increased 100%!!!! I'm able to do so much more now.

:)

Hi Sabrina!

I too started out with the Firm and as a beginner it was a great place to start but I got bored very quickly with their workouts. Cathe's workouts are far superior in EVERY aspect. I wound up selling nearly 30 of my Firm tapes when I discovered Cathe because once I found her, I lost all patience for any instructor (video or otherwise) who could not efficiently cue me, give me perfect form pointers and last but not the least, provide me the fabulous intensity that Cathe packs into each workout.

What bothers me about the Firm is that even in their pure strength training workouts there simply aren't enough reps to bring you to muscle failure. So I never felt that I was producing a concentrated, all out fatigue in my muscles which is crucial when you are weight training. I was not much impressed with their cardio either which seems to mimic a beginner/intermediate level circuit style workout that they like to label as aerobic weight training. Also, they tell you to increase the weight you are lifting if the workout is too easy for you. I found this difficult to do because their reps are much too fast for one to be able to lift heavy weight and also even when the reps are slow, there aren't enough of them to produce a burn in your muscles.

I agree with Dani in that my endurance also improved dramatically when I started working out with Cathe. I kept modifying my Cathe workouts so I could do them even at a low intermediate level. This way I always had something to challenge myself with in each workout; I could not do this with the Firm.

Take care :)

Thanks for the responses. Are there any DVD's out there that you would suggest incorporating into Cathe's workouts for a change of pace? I have all of Cathe's workouts if that helps. I was also looking into DVD's in yoga and a mini trampoline workout. Any suggestions?

I've found so many ideas from the forums over at www.videofitness.com Readers Forums. They're great. It depends what you're into. I do like Pilates. Here's a recent thread from video fitness talking about Pilates. http://forum.videofitness.com/showthread.php?t=52558&highlight=Pilates+work

Also, I have the Reboundair too. I use it once in a while.

I've also just started incorporating P90X with Cathe too. There's a great Yoga workout included.

Have fun!

I do have Winsor pilates and I enjoy doing those workouts.

Do you have a DVD for you rebounder? I need to find one.

I have not ordered the P90X. Have been thinking about it though.

Do you do any spinning? Is there any DVD's out for that do you know?

Thanks

I don't do any spinning. The workout I use with my reounder is from FitPrime called G-Force. It's pretty good.
Here's the link:

Here's some info from videofitness about rebounder workouts. If you do a search on spinning workouts you'll find some too.

For Spinning videos, check: http://www.spinervals.com. Coach Troy Jacobson has created a bunch of spinning tapes (more than 15, with 3 more in development), some running tapes (runnervals), and some spinning audio cassettes. The more recent releases are available on DVD, too. These are great workouts!
