The Classics or Cardio Hits?

I'm new to Cathe but not to step. I tried BS&BF and found it too easy choreographically and intensity wise. I have and like LIS. I am thinking my next cardio purchase will be The Classics or Cardio Hits. Which do you recommend/prefer and why?

Thanks :)

If I had to choose between just those two, I'd pick Cardio Hits. The Classics to me are more fun and more intense.

If I could choose any of Cathe's step workouts, however, I'd go with Step Blast or LowMax. Step Blast is my all time favorite step workout. It's got three fun sections followed by three awesome blasts at the end that use all three sections strung together, with an intensity blast thrown in. LowMax is sort of a longer and more intense version of LIS. LowMax is probably easier to learn than is Step Blast, but it only took me a couple tries to get Step Blast down.

Enjoy whichever one you end up getting.

I don't understand your response. You said you'd pick Cardio Hits but The Classics are more fun and more intense.

I have Low Max and tried it the other day on an 8" step and it was too difficult so next time I'll use a 6" step. So, I was looking for something a little less intense for variety. BS wasn't challenging enough and I can see where I'll outgrow LIS too.

In my opinion, The Classics are less intense and also easier choreography. So, if that's your criteria, that might be a better choice. But, I enjoy the workouts on Cardio Hits MUCH more. I think they are more intense and more fun. But, the more basic choreography isn't as enjoyable to me. That's just my opinion, I'm not sure what the majority view is on comparing these two.

Sorry, I don't know how to edit, so I'll just quote myself! AFter I posted, I looked up the workouts in the "ultimate guide" that is at the top of this forum. The Cardio Hits workouts come out as more intense. See below!

Step Cardio (where step cardio is the dominate feature in the workout)

• Basic Step- 2.64
• Get in Shape for Your Wedding (step portion only)- 4.15
• Step N Motion 1- 4.33
• Step Heat- 4.94 CLASSICS
• Step Jam- 5.14 CLASSICS
• Mega Step Blast- 5.38
• Step Max- 5.46 CLASSICS
• All Step- 6.14
• Step Fit- 6.74 CARDIO HITS
• Power Max- 6.90 CARDIO HITS
• Rhythmic Step- 6.96
• Step Works- 7.05 CARDIO HITS
• Step Blast- 7.50

Thank you for your reply. I have seen the ultimate guide and knew that Cardio Hits are considered more intense. I'm just trying to figure out where I stand intensity and choreography wise.

PowerMax of Cardio Hits remains one of my favorite step workouts and wasn't too hard to learn. I've never regretted the purchase of Cardio Hits for this workout alone.

It also has a nice ab workout as a bonus (from one of the Pure Strength workouts).

Don't have the Classics - except Step Heat on VHS, which is shorter and I use as a warm-up for a short weight workout.

Oops, I meant to say that I think Cardio Hits are more fun and more intense. Sorry about that. I tried The Classics a few times, but I found them to be a bit on the easy side and they didn't have as much a fun factor for me, but if you are looking for something less intense perhaps they will suit you.

How would I know if I am ready for the intensity of Cardio Hits? I find LIS fairly easy but LM moves a little fast for me. I've only done LM (intervals 1-4) a couple of times so far.

Thanks in advance. I REALLY appreciate you all helping me decide since I'm new to Cathe and I don't want something I can't handle yet I want to be challenged as well. :)

I found that for me, the best way to get to the point where I could do Cathe's toughest workouts was to just start doing them. For example, I probably wasn't quite advanced enough for IMAX 2 when I bought it, but I just started doing it, say five intervals at a time, all the while modifying anything that was too difficult. You can always take the power out of some of those jumpier moves (do regular jumping jacks instead of plies, don't jump all the power 15's, etc).

You might want to try Cardio & Weights, which is a circuit workout, but the cardio is not overly intense. Also, the CTX Series is a great one to learn Cathe's moves from. It's got a lot of high impact moves, but the cardio sections are short, so it's fairly doable for an itermediate exerciser.

So, if I were you, I'd probably go ahead and get Cardio Hits, and just take your time working up to it's intensity.

I agree. Plus in CH each workout is split into segments, so you can do one or two segments at a time... the thing is, the earlier workouts REALLY break down the moves that the later, more advanced workouts use as a foundation. Therefore, you are killing many birds with one stone, not to mention the cellulite. :)

Cheers,
Marie

Thank you, Marie. That is exactly what I need is the moves broken down a bit more and for her to go a bit slower, although not as slow as in Basic Step.
