The "buzz" from a great workout!

Cathlete
The other day I was vegging on the floor after a great Muscle Max workout, and DW comes by and asks me how I feel. I tell her I feel as though I just had several vodka and tonics..she says.."that bad, huh"...I say...no..that good..the good pre-hangover buzz a night of drinking used to give me.

Long story short...I used to drink..alot..I'd think nothing of spending 12 hours at the bar with the barstool buddies watching football on Sunday...and doing it all over again the following week.

Never in my wildest dreams did I realize you could feel so good after exercise...but I just started outright laughing after the workout, that's how good it felt.

Now that I'm sober...football is watched with the wife on Sundays from the comfort of the couch, and the only buzz I get is the natural kind.

Sure, the barstool buds never call anymore, but I'm cool with that..would much rather chat with you fine folks, anyway.

Dear god, am I maturing after all these years...thank god I'm wearing my Mickey Mouse watch...need it to remind me I'm just a big kid at heart.

It's a shame that there are so many more nightclubs than healthclubs around, looks like I finally went through the right door this time.

When I took Cathe's live class a couple of weeks ago, she was surprised I drove an hour to get there. I told her I spent so many hours wasting my time over the years...an hour drive to do something good for myself was nothing!! And sooo worth it!!

RE: The

I'm so glad I read your post, and not to discount anything you just said, but this comment saved my @$$ big time..."thank god I'm wearing my Mickey Mouse watch". You see, my DH's Mickey Mouse watch is at the jewelers for repairs and I was supposed to pick it up yesterday:eek: . I totally forgot about it until I read your post. If you were still going to the bar I'd buy you a cold one:7

Off I go to the jewelers...Oh yeah, and I agree with everything else you said, too...sort of (I really REALLY hate cardio) :p :7

RE: The

There's nothing like a natural high. Isn't it great you can get one every day without doing anything bad to your body?

RE: The

eagle-
I love that high I get right after...the "zone"!! It doesn't matter if an asteroid hit I would veg on it while staring at it in awe...I love it! But, I love the next day when I am climbing my stairs with a cup of coffee and I say to myself look at those quads..I feel good! I use to wake in the morning in complete anxiety!! Confusion and fear were my barstool buds but now I feel like I am accomplishing something and it feels killer.... duck.....

RE: The

When people tell me they have problems sticking to a workout schedule I ask them how they felt after they last worked out. They always tell me fantastic. I tell them to remember that the next time they don't want to workout.

I love that high so much, especially after a really hard workout where you pushed yourself to the limit. I'm so glad you're getting that high from working out and not from drinking!!

RE: The

Jerry ... this was such a cool post. You inspire me. Way to go!!

I'm trying to kick some of my issues and having a struggle with it. It is good to see your success.

RE: The

Stebby,

Exercise, exercise, exercise...just do it...any form....start where you are, use what you have, it will be enough!!

Best of luck to you,

Jerry

RE: The

Great post, thanks!

I am have been feeling cruddy lately, not looking forward to working out. I want a moment like you described. That will be enough to get me out of bed tomorrow at 445 am!

RE: The

You know, I just described it as 'afterglow' to someone the other day! I always feel better after working out!

RE: The

You're so right Jerry! There's nothing like the feeling after a good sweaty workout/run.....that endorphin glow keeps me coming back. Best drug going, I'm addicted and proud of it :7

RE: The

Jerry - you are so right, I always scratch my head when people complain about working out and say that it's such a chore. I guess I just can't relate. It's such a rush to see myself get more skilled, it is fun to dance across the step with Cathe, and like you said, I feel like a zillion bucks afterwards. What on earth is a chore about that?!

RE: The

Wonderful post!!! No hangover after MM, either!!! Except that nasty part where you can't move for 3 days!!! But it's its a feel good sore, not "what the hell did I do, my head is pounding" sore. I actually did MM today for the 1st time in about 2 months - it is my weight workout for this month. I forgot what a toughie it is. I feel like steamrollered jell-o. DH may have to carry me around tomorrow. But it feels so good!!! I actually lifted heavier on the barbell biceps than normal (40 lbs). I was thinking "why in the heck is this SO heavy?!?!" Then I looked at the bar an realized I had miscounted my weight so instead of 35 I had 40. Whoops! But I thought to myself "I started with 40, I can finish with 40" and I did, I it felt good to be able to do that. So my new weight is 40! Ahh, the natural high of accomplishment. Hopefully, I'll be able to move my arms tomorrow as KickMax is next on the line up.

RE: The

I can totally relate. 15 years ago, I put down the bottle and picked up the weights and never looked back! I started competing in the 90's and still lift and keep in shape today.
I have even cut out my beloved wine the past few months, I felt like it just was not the best thing for my body-I recently had surgery and wanted to heal without with it. So I love your post Jerry. Good job, and keep it up!

RE: The

Great post Jerry. I 100% know what you are talking about. I was never a drinker, but after losing 125 pounds and now having turned into a complete workout junkie, I get that rush from the exercise instead of the food. People always comment about how I'm "nuts" for always exercising, "it hurts too much, it's tiring, etc." and I try to tell them that it's better than speniding my time doing nothing, eating crap and feeling lousy! Some get it, others don't. Anyway, keep it up, so many of us here know exactly how you feel. AND we are WAY cooler than a bunch of bar flies!!!
