Cathe,
Just want to let you know how your workouts have improved my cycling. I know that riding more makes you a better cyclist, but I don't want to spend more hours out on the road. I've been married 26 years and enjoy spending time with my non-riding DH. Plus, I have other interests, like riding my horse, family get togethers, etc., not to mention working 40 hours a week. DVD's such as Imax2 and anything with intervals has really helped me push a little harder and longer on the hills. In my head, when it gets tough, I sometimes hear you say "WORK!", and "YES YOU CAN!". The weight workouts and core workouts are paying off big time in my ability to stand up on the pedals and transfer the leg power straight to the bike. Not to mention the leg workouts have just really made a difference in pushing some bigger gears. All these workouts in the privacy of my own home too! I only ride a couple times a week, but I make those rides count. I've done 5 centuries this year, and yes, on only riding twice a week.
Actually, got some great compliments today from advanced riders on how much stronger I am this year. I always tell them about my DVD workouts with you and how cross-training helps.
I've actually not really lost any weight, but am definitely in the best shape of my life (age 46) and it sure feels great!!
Just wanted you to know how much your workouts help to accomplish goals in other activities.
