Testing Awesome Mom's of ACTIVE Toddler's checkin 8-9

Cathlete
Okay...I just sent a long post with my workouts etc and it's not showing up AT ALL. Maybe the forum figured it was too boring and didn't want it to show up????

Briee

Just seeing if somethings wrong at my end.

Okay so why did this one show up and not the other x( x( x( x( x( ????

Oh well....so how is everyone doing? Thought we needed a checkin since it's been a month. Emy..how's the baby. I'm doing Cathe's prescribed August rotation with very few changes. Mel...went on the 5 mile run on Monday and my knees and shins were sore, but I iced them and they seem much better today!! It was actually a fun run (can't believe I said that). This is the first Cathe prescribed rotation I've ever done and it's a fun one - she's a slave driver!!

I have a question for you prego's.....a friend of mine is 7 months pregnant and wanting to begin a workout program. She was wondering if you have a recommended pregnancy tape that would cover cardio and strength training. Any suggestions?? Thanks so much.

Hope your all having a wonderful summer!!

Briee

Briee, is your friend REALLY SEVEN months along, or just 28 weeks or so. I think you should be honest here if we're going to give our workout recommendations. }( I'm trying to remember...does Fit4Two have strength training on it?
BTW, I'm VERY proud of your 5 mile run!!! I haven't run in a few weeks. I've hung my running shoes up until Spring...when I'll be trading my single jogger for a double.
How's your house coming along?

Where's Autumn? I haven't heard from her in a long time...

Hi Shopaholic, MSG & Emy!!! Hi all you cutie toddlers. BTW, I've updated my family website again. www.monnie.photosite.com Feel free to check it out. There's even a picture of my huge belly on that site. ;)

She is due in the beginning of October, so what....that makes her like 10 months pregnant (at least that's what I felt like at that pointx( x( x( x( ). It's a good thing you have a "prego counter" under your signature Mel to keep you in line!!!

I'll tell her to check into the fit4two video (I'm still trying to get her to log in and start checking in at your prego checkin). I'm sure she'd get the exercise bug once you guys work her over ;) ;) ;) .

I LOVED your pictures Mel, when can I come visit???? We have a crummy little ski boat...but it works!!! I didn't see the one of your preggie belly though....where was it???? Maybe it was so tiny that it wasn't visible you skinny kid!!! The lake looks beautiful...do you have a boat launch....can we use your dock???? Nothing like inviting yourself over huh!!!

Briee

Briee, you're too funny. Remember, we have a 1200 sq foot house? I don't think it would even house your family, let alone all your pooches. ;) Didn't my prego belly show up? I"m much bigger with this pregnancy. I've already gained 15 lbs. :( I've really been pushing the exercising more, now that I have a little bit more energy. Tell me again, how many square feet is your house? Your garage is probably bigger than my house. ;)

We do, however, have lots and lots of resorts on the the chain of lakes here. And yes, there's a boat landing on our boat. I'd sure like to see you & your kids. How fun would that be?

Where's everyone else? Yehew!!!!

Hi Briee!!! I'm due Oct 4th so I'm guessing your friend is due around the same time as me??? Right now I'm really liking High Step Circuit - I didn't do it at all before I got pregnant (it came with the High Step which is how I acquired it) but I think it is perfect for pregnancy since it is a beginner/interm DVD.

Tell her to join us - we'd love another preggo! HA!!!

RE: Testing Awesome Mom's of ACTIVE Toddler's checkin 8...

Hi Briee, Melanie!

What's happening?

Briee, I did a 4 mile run on Monday and my legs were killing me. I was exhausted. I think it is my shoes. I called in roadrunnersports and ordered me a new pair. Since I have gained a few pounds, ahem, muscle and fat, I had to go into more "cushion" type of shoes because of the added weight. My shoes are due to arrive in about a week. Can't wait.}(

SO tell me, what do you all talk about at this checkin? My baby is 3. Definitely a toddler.:p

RE: Testing Awesome Mom's of ACTIVE Toddler's checkin 8...

Hi Runathon! You should join our toddler check ins. We do the obvious (encourage each other with workouts) and then we talk about whatever we want to talk about. Usually or families a/o kids.
So, I recently did a lot of research & purchased asics running shoes for the first time. I LOVE them. They fit perfectly, I will never buy another shoe. Of course, they set me back almost $100, but what's the price of unsore knees? :D :D I got them at zappos.com, they offer free shipping & free returns too. Have you tried them?

RE: Testing Awesome Mom's of ACTIVE Toddler's checkin 8...

Hey Runathon....please checkin....I've missed you!!

What don't we talk about. That would be a shorter list.:p :p :p :p .

When we were pregnant....we talked about just "how" pregnant we were. It was a big ongoing debate. But now it's easy. I am 0 days pregnant...although I'm due to have TTOTM in a day or two so technically I could be about 15 days pregnant in Mel's opinion but really I would be 30 days pregnant because you start from the first day of your last cycle according to the greater opinion polls. I think we can safely say that everyone's glad I'm not pregnant so we can quit talking about this subject and move on with life and more important things....like potty training and when to move toddlers out of cribs.

Which by the way Runathon...you may be able to help us with please. When did you move your three year old out of the crib? Noah goes through this ritual now at nap time, cry, throw the bottle out of crib, throw blanket #1 out of crib, throw comforter out of crib, push blanket #2 which hangs on side of crib out of crib, hop like a bunny from one end of the crib to the other, back and forth, back and forth, back and forth, cry more.....NOW THE IMPORTANT PART....ALMOST CLIMBS OUT OF CORNER OF CRIB AND FALLS ON HEAD. I'm worried about this part. Now what do I do. He'll never stay in a bed and I don't want him to fall out of the crib. Any advice is MUCH appreciated. (little stinker - but he's sooooo cute, especially the bunny part-I laughed so hard watching him).

Briee (I've been up in a lift 40 feet in the air siding our home in the rain all day and I've had one too many cups of coffee - Sorry for rambling)

RE: Testing Awesome Mom's of ACTIVE Toddler's checkin 8...

I almost forgot to add.....THANKS Dana for your recommendation. I don't have High Step Challenge to loan her, but maybe I'll have to pick it up for her. I was thinking of one of Cathe's new beginner workouts. Although I think she may be looking for a specifically "pregnant type" workout. (Cathe's much more fun!!)

ALSO.....I'm still looking at the pictures of your wonderful lake Mel and thinking I need a vacation from this house project...so I looked at the map and saw that your little town isn't too far from Sartell MN. This is where my cousin (she was my best buddy growing up) lives. She wants us to visit and maybe if we go there for a short visit we could drag the boat along and ski on your lake and stop in for a visit (just a quickie). Doesn't this sound like a blast!! Is your lake a public or private lake? I saw Rice lake on the map...is this the one??? Can you tell I'm desperately looking for a much needed break from this house project!!

Hi Briee, Melanie, Runathon---

And where are you Shopaholic, Emy, Autumn

and hello to all you who post occaisionally--sorry my overloaded pregnant brain can't remember any but those who are regular posters(insert frazzled looking smiley here).

Briee--I am so jealous of you doing the August rotation. I am following the thread on the open discussion board, because I am interested to see how people do with it. I am planning this one when I am recovered enough post partum.

I don't really have any suggestions for your friend--maybe basic step and body fusion? but they may not be good to start with in the middle of pregnancy. Perhaps if she used extremely light weights (and Cathe does in the workouts) and used a 4 inch step or even no step to start with? This video is very economical as it has the basic step workout, the body fusion circuit, and and upper body add on (20 min), a lower body add on (20 min) and an ab workout all for about $30.00. Might be good for a post partum beginner too.

I have no familiarity with non Cathe workouts (except tae bo)

I hope others have suggestions.

take care, all
Maggie

RE: Testing Awesome Mom's of ACTIVE Toddler's checkin 8...

I'm here ladies! Busy, busy, busy. I am taking on the challenge of homeschooling Sydney... kindergarten. There are no support groups in my area so I'll be traveling. Well, I have only looked into a specific group, so I'll broaden my horizons. :) I am also trying to decide if I should move forward with this NFP only program I am interested in attending... actually... I am being called but am not certain WHEN should do it.

I have been much better with my workouts the last two weeks and eating for life. Does anyone have the cookbook? Good stuff. :) Or maybe I am a poor cook on my own. :D

DH and I are scanning and putting together a picturetrail. I have to show off these latest pics. Proud mama. :7

Well, I gotta run. Later 'gators.

RE: Testing Awesome Mom's of ACTIVE Toddler's checkin 8...

Briee,

I would part with my Kathy Smith Pregnancy workout (no charge), but it is dated. It uses the old ACOG deadlines, which were more restrictive.

Hi Maggie, hi Autumn!!!

Where's your picture trail Autumn? I want to see!!!!

Briee, I"m on the Horseshoe Chain of Lakes just west of St Cloud. It's a public lake. We're about 45 min or so from Sartell. :D Come visit me. :D

RE: Testing Awesome Mom's of ACTIVE Toddler's checkin 8...

Hey Autumn...your around!! We'd love to see pictures. You are so sweet to offer your Kathy Preg Tape, I'll have to ask her. She mentioned some "fit mama" preg tape, have any of you heard of or tried this one? Good to hear from ya!

Maggie, the August rotation will always be there and you WILL get to it, Lord Willing. :) . It is tough, but I'm having so much fun and needed a little push. I had to rest a day following the 5 mile run due to shin, knee soreness (I stuck in a P90X shoulder/arm workout the day after instead of more cardio), but I did the High Step Challenge today and I was fine. I've been adding in a little upper body stuff as this rotation is not focused on this area. It is a complete cardio boost to my system. I didn't know there was a thread for others doing it, I'll have to find it. I remember reading a thread on Ask Cathe as to the "overtraining" aspect, but as I'm doing it - it's not too much - one just couldn't keep it up forever ;-) ;-) .

Mel....I'll have to look at the map again. I know this may be me dreaming....but I'd sure love to get away even for a day or two and my cousins been buggin me for a long time to visit.

RE: Testing Awesome Mom's of ACTIVE Toddler's checkin 8...

Hi Ladies!

Briee, about the crib:

My son actually sleeps on a queen size mattress on the floor. ;) I was not about to start worrying about him bumping his head if he fell from a regular bed.

He sometimes sleeps with my daughter or my other son and sometimes sneaks in at night to our bed, except that days I expressly tell him he is not allowed to. He scares me sometimes because he comes running in during the wee hours! :+

More later...gotta run!

RE: Testing Awesome Mom's of ACTIVE Toddler's checkin 8...

Ok, I am back. Had to work!

So, the thing with my 3 year old is to be firm and let him know that HIS bed is in HIS room and that OUR bed is NOT his. I am very firm with him (love him to pieces, but firm). I do not negotiate and he knows it.:*

I think that is the trick: dismantle his crib, put the mattress on the floor and let him sleep there by himself. Noah will probably feel like a big boy! My other children like to spend time together on the mattress on the floor, too!

What do you think? I hope this has helped at least some.:D

RE: Testing Awesome Mom's of ACTIVE Toddler's checkin 8...

Briee--

Folks doing Cathe's August rotation are calling it the August Rotation check-in. There are a lot of ladies doing it.

RE: Testing Awesome Mom's of ACTIVE Toddler's checkin 8...

I had to leave work early yesterday b/c I got some stomach virus. Vomiting, diarrhea, the works. This AM I have lots of gas, a headache & my body is sore all over. I took today off of work too. I'm praying that my family doesn't get this!!!

Ahh Melanie,

I hope you feel better soon and the family dodges the virus.

My picturetrail is coming along. I have one of Sydney done, but Jordan's pictures are huge so DH needs to resize them. I could learn to do it, but I don't want to. ;)
