Tell me about Cardio & Weights

I'd like some info about this workout. How long are the step sections? How many are there? Does it contain any blasts? What about premixes? I want a new step workout from Cathe and this is one I don't have. I'm not too interested doing weights and cardio together, but was wondering if the step section would be something I'd like. I love the Step Blast/Step Jump & Pump dvd if that makes a difference.

Cardio and Weights comes on the same DVD as Imax 2. They're both great workouts--Imax 2 is much more intense. I don't do C&W very often. I find the step sections to be too repetetive and not intense enough for me. It's a great workout for a lighter day. The music is great too. There are no blasts involved in C&W. It just alternates steady-state step sections with weight sections.

I guess I'm not the best one to talk about this workout since I'm not a big fan of circuit workouts anyway. Cathe has much better circuits than this one, in my opinion. (The Gauntlet, Drill Max, Bootcamp premix from Body Max 2, Low Impact Circuit, Step, Jump and Pump, etc). I have the dvd because I love Imax 2 so much, so in that sense, it's worth the purchase.

You might really like C&W. I say give it a shot! :D

The Step premix of C&W is about 30 minutes long. It's fun but there are no true blast, but as Allison said IMAX2 is on the DVD and you can mish mosh like crazy. A fun combo would be C&W step then the blast only premix of IMAX2. I really like the upper body weight work on C&W, great add on or quickie upperbody. I say go for it!!

I do agree with Allison about the intensity in C&W. I don't find them intensy enough for me (by the way, I love Step blast and do it often)

I have the Terminator dvd which has all the step sections of C&W and also the segments from Imax2 (which has intervals). I often do X-treme (which is a mix of segments from C&W and Imax2) or mix manually sections from these 2 workouts, switching between the high intensity and intervals of Imax2 and the lower intensity sections from C&W. The combinations vary depending on my level on energy. If you don't mind going back and forth on your dvd, the Terminator might be another option for you.

You may also look at the clips from C&W, it may help you decide.

I too find the intensity of the cardio/circuit segments to be much more moderate than my tastes; thus I have never done that portion at all.

HOWEVER -

The ab/core segment is one of the best I have ever had in my collection. In fact I did it last night, kicking it off with the Kick Punch Crunch supine stability ball work beforehand, and it still kicks my butt - er, my tum-tum after all these years.

As others have noted, it comes on the same disc as I-Max 2, which is a perennial favorite. A good purchase overall, IMHO.

The ab/core section is fabulous. I like the whole workout (C&W). I've done it often, especially on days I am not feeling very good. Its just a happy workout. And having Imax 2 with it, makes it one of Cathe's best. I love the Intensity series. All of it is well chaptered, so you can mix and match. The Body Blast series is well done too.

Although Cardio and Weights isn't the toughest workout, it is just sooo much fun. The music is incredible. I really enjoy doing the step portions (sometimes adding them w/the step portion from SJP)

I've found that I never dread this workout (and that's a HUGE plus these days), and I can make it more intense by jumping higher during the step portions, putting in tougher moves, and adding on a bit more weight work at the end.

I LOVE Cardio and Weights! I love the music, I love the step sections, and I even love the weights and abs (one of my favorite abs workouts). When I'm done, my whole body feels worked over.

I personally think Cardio and Weights is underrated. It has a very high fun factor for me (I love the Elvis-remake song in the third step section!).

Have a great day,
Dawn

Oooh! I think I'm going to try this today...got a new pair of shoes today and was looking for some fun cardio to break 'em in! Sounds like this would fit the bill. I like the step in C&W; I wish it were longer. (And I like the abs section too!)

I am also a BIG fan of the Cardio and Weights DVD. It is a great total body circuit workout. It is great for giving definition to armas and mid-section. I ALSO love the ab section. If you have any fat in that area....it doesn't stand a chance against this workout. My recommendation is to buy this workout. IMAX 2, which is also on this workout is one of Cathe's best....although it is a bit high impact for me.
