Teeth Whitening Strips

My whitening trays that the dentist made for me several years ago don't fit anymore, and I'm consdering trying the strips that are out on the market. My new dentist hasn't mentioned the strips to me and I fear that maybe she just wants me to pay $600 to get new trays, so I haven't asked her, although I know I should. Now, with my stepson's engagement party coming up this weekend, I'd like to know if others have used the strips and what you think about them. Did they work? Any negative reactions or problems? Any particular brand that you like (Crest, Rembrandt?)

I hope Connie the dental hygenist sees this post. Any comments Connie?

Thanks all for any comments.

I asked them at my dentist office, the say the recommend crest whitening strips, I haven't tried them yet, but will soon.... Rhonda

I tried the Crest White Strips a year or so ago - the original ones that you use for a month. They did noticeably whiten my teeth after about a week of using them, and I'm a heavy coffee/tea drinker. The only problem I had is that my teeth are really sensitive to begin with, and using these made them more so. So I stopped using them after a week.

BTW - Great picture Nancy!

I love the Crest Premium White Strips, they work so well! They only take 30 minutes to work. When I jump out of the shower I put them on, and by the time I am done with my make-up, hair, etc. they are done. It's time for me to buy more. I am a major coffee and diet coke fan so I need them!

I have tried the crest white strips. I like the 7 day crest white strips. They do help brighten the teeth. I use strips about every 6 months. The only problem is that I have sensitive teeth so if your teeth are sensitive than you might have to go with just using once a day, etc.

They are wonderful!! I used them for our wedding & they made a huge difference. My dentist recommended them and even 6 months after I stopped using them she could still tell.

Question, I plan on using them once my braces come off but I thought I remember someone mentioning that while these strips do a great job they don't clean in-between the teeth, or on the edges. Does anyone notice this?

Nancy, an alternative

I had your same situation -- my bleach trays got old and loose. I found this site through my dentist's hygienist. It's run by

http://www.allamericansmile.com/

I ordered one of the kits for my DH for Father's Day last summer and the trays they made for him came quickly and fit well. I e-mailed them, too, to ask about the bleach products, and they responded quickly and thoroughly. Since then I've replaced my own bleach trays with one of their kits. Bottom line is that it's a pretty decent financial deal and good customer service.

Just food for thought! :)

The Crest Whitening Strips do work! My dentist also has a stronger version of the Crest Whitening Strips for about $30 more. But, the regular ones from over the counter worked great for me.

:D

Hi Nancy,

I tried Crest White Strips a couple years back...after a few days they made my teeth so sensitive that they hurt almost constantly so I stopped using them before I could even really see any results. This is a possible side effect they warn you about but it doesn't happen to everybody....

Have a great work out!

Crest Premium works well, although I can only use them once a day every other day. By the third treatment my teeth are very sore and my gums are sensitive, but I notice a change. If my teeth weren't this sensitive I know I'll get great results. I'd like to try the Rembrandt kind. The ad says it has something in it that minimizes sensitivity.

Talking of teeth whitening and dentists... I have left every dentist who has pitched whitening and tried to persuade me over and over to do it. Here in Dallas, what I think is the mecca of plastic surgery, laser hair treatments and mouth restorations, there seems to be much pressure in dentists' offices to sell these treatments. Hygenists rave about it the way cosmetic reps promote their wares. So far, no hygenist I've ever talked to has said anything positive about the OTC products. Well, these in-office treatments aren't covered by insurance, and there's no way I'm spending so much for something that will last for only a few months when I am raising a special needs child. I had a dentist whose office actually called a dental surgeon's office for me -- without my knowledge or consent -- because such dentist wanted so much for me to get a dental implant. I told the dental surgeon's office that they can GIVE me an implant but I don't have six grand budgeted for it. Such dentist also made me feel ugly for declining in-office teeth whitening. Such dentist must've thought that since my husband was, at the time, working for a software company whose stock went up from the low $90s to the high $390s that there had to be a stock split, that we could afford all these doodads. Anyway, pardon the rant... but I'll stick to the OTC stuff.

I had a regular check up this January and I asked my dentist about the strips. He didn't know that I used them once about a year ago, but I asked him to see what he thought about it and he said that I didn't need them. He asked do you smoke, are you a coffee, tea, wine drinker? I said no to all. And he said well you don't need those, but if you're stubborn and you still want to use them just do it once a year. He also said that excessive tooth whitening can damage the enamel of the teeth and I take really good care of my teeth for that to happen. That year when I tried them I used the regular Crest white strips, those you use for 14 days. To tell you the truth I didn't notice a huge difference, but I think that was because I didn't need much whitening.

I tried the 14-day Crest ones last night and they made me nervous. They created a lot of saliva in my mouth, which I kept swallowing, and I kept thinking I was swallowing chemicals that can't possibly be good for me. A rather nerve-wracking experience! Did anyone else worry about this?

Yes. I do a lot of spitting while these things are in my mouth. No way am I swallowing peroxide. Unlike those people in the ads who use these while driving and exercising, I use these in the morning or at night, times of the day when I'm closest to my bathroom or kitchen sink.:)

I use the premium crest white strips (7 days) and notice a big difference. Sometimes the pasty stuff or slime makes me gag though.. when I pull them off.. I never swallow it..

My dentist said they are fine to use, and twice a year at the most.

I use Crest Whitening Strips. But I use them once a day while watching TV for one hour. They work great that way. Sometimes I feel my teeth getting sensitive, but I just use sensitive tooth paste and it goes away. My teeth are so wonderfuly white. I'm a heavy coffee user. Can't be more pleased with the product. You don't have to use all of the stips at once to get a very nice white going, so I'm saving some just to use during the rest of the time as needed. Directions say, after you use all the strips, the whitening on your teeth should last for one year.

I'm with you, Pinky. I refuse to swallow, and just keep spitting. I can't relax and watch TV cuz I'm too busy spitting! x(
