tanning

hey guys! I already asked Cathe this question, however, I know she is incredibly busy so... What type of self-tanner do you guys recommend and where would I get it? Cathe and her crew always have beautiful skin and I wondering if they tan in a bed or what? Any ideas? Thanks.

Does this brand of tan towels smell bad? I tried some from Victoria Secrets and they make my skin smell for 2 days even after showering.

I've been looking for self tanners as well. I like the Bare Escentials line but they are out of stock now (Sephora). Do the towels work only for one application? I saw you only get five and that can get expensive. How much area do they cover and how often do you apply?

I actually asked Jai and Lorraine this question on the roadtrip because I agree--they have beautiful skin tones. Lorraine said that she gets much darker in the summer from the sun but does not tan and Jai said she does not tan but is naturally dark (she's from Native American descent). She said she might lay in a tanning bed once or twice during the winter months but that's it. I didn't get to talk to Cathe about her gorgeous skin tone. Hope this helps!

They do get expensive. But one evolution towel covers (practically) the whole body. I say practically because I do legs, arms, and chest first. Then I finish with the areas that are mostly covered. By the time I get to my back there's not much left. I repeat every three to four days to maintain. I just mainly use when want to look good for something.

I'm not sure they'd be the ones I'd ask: they are naturally dark.

Did Jai say she was of Native American descent? I always thought she was of Indian (like in India) or perhaps Pakistani descent. Her name Jashira(sp?)Stulpinas definitely seems more Indian/Pakistani.

Well, I like their skin tones and wanted to ask, so I did. Next time you have access to all of Cathe's crew you can choose who you prefer to ask.

Kathryn--must you always nit-pick? Ok, maybe she's not of Native American descent--that's what I was told. That wasn't the point of the post.

Allison--I really like Estee Lauder's self tanners. I've only used the facial tanners (I tan year-round but stopped tanning my face about 6-7 years ago), but they're very natural looking & very effective. And believe me, I've tried pretty much every product on the market!

One thing to bear in mind is self tanners have changed drastically over the years (remember QT? OMG! It was like orange paint! :p ). They used to be strictly skin dyes. Now they actually have ingredients that bring melanin to the skin's surface, giving you a much more natural color. So regardless of the skin color of who you ask, you'll still get good results if it's a quality product.

If wanting truth/clarification is 'nit-picking,' then I guess I'm guilty.

QT..OMG is right! I had a friend in high school who one day must have used the whole bottle at once. She came to school looking like an alien! And there was absolutely no way to cover it: you just had to wait until it wore off.

I currently use Loreal's micro-mist for medium skin tones. Its okay, you do not get really dark, but a light gold color.
I just cannot justify laying in the bed, I get horrible images of my skin looking wrinkled and "wizzened" like an old, old lady's years from now. Although I have given in (my DH bought a tanning bed because he is obsessed with staying dark) so there is a constant temptation to go lay in the bed after a workout. But so far, I have only given in a few times. Just not worth it for me personally.

LauraMax, thanks for the Lauder tip, I will have to try the line. Oh, and I always thought Jai was Greek or something! Doesn't she run a Greek restaurant with her hubby?:)

> Oh, and I always thought Jai was Greek or something!

I know it's a restaurant, but I can't remember if its Greek (I thought it was Indian, but maybe just assumed, because I thought Jai was Indian. Though now that you mention it, Stulpinas could be Greek. Maybe that's her husband's name--most of my married female colleagues keep their maiden name--and he's greek?)

Stulpinas definitely could be Greek (Greek here waving hands wildly!). Her skin tone is definitely similar to my family's.

Truthfully I would never let the sun's rays near me if it wasn't for my wretched skin condition. Unfortunately it's the only thing that keeps me clear & I'm definitely starting to pay the price. My derm warned me it was a trade off.......oh well.......thank goodness for injectables! :p

Not to hijack the thread here, but I remember that Jai was in the process of opening another restaurant with her husband during the time of the 2005 roadtrip, thus her absence. I remember checking out the website, and it was mostly a fish and seafood place, very eclectic. I don't recall it bearing any ethnic identity of any kind. Now if my feeble brain could only recall the name!;-)

I personally like the Jergens lotion that gives you a nice tint over time. I can put it on and then put clothes on, no mess no muss.

Oh, oh, wait a second! Sorry Lauramax, I am highjacking here. I think I read in Lorraine's bio, that she enjoyed the Greek salad at Jai's restaurant!:9
Oh dear, so that along with her last name and her looks, led me to believe that she might be of Grecian descent. Good grief, here I am starting all sorts of rumors!:)

LauraMax, yes, I agree, thank goodness for injectables along with other things ( I have done the laser facials, they are terrific for uneven skin tone) we have at our disposal now days!;-)
