Tall People -- Are You Good at Push-Ups?

Okay okay okay...I understand what you are saying. Yes there are body types that are "naturally" more suited to pushups, I will give you that. BUT I want to make it clear just as in the case of pullups, (when I tried my first pullup I could barely do 1/2 of one....I COULD NOT GET MY BODY UP TO THAT BAR NO MATTER WHAT) that many things take a "dang hard amount of work" to achieve. So don't limit yourself to not being able to do them "because I happen to be a certain body type" statement. I'm being tough on you I know...but I hate to see people just toss out the idea of "fighting for them" because they just resolve that they can't do them. I KNOW YOUR NOT DOING THIS!! But just to keep it in mind.

The other day my Tae Kwon Do instructor gave us a speech in class on doing the splits. He stated that some people just can't "do" the splits because their body will "never" allow them to. I told him "respectfully...sir....I was given this same speech when I was in highschool and couldn't do the splits (so I thus "really didn't try") and it wasn't until the past FEW YEARS that I have been able to do them through lots of stretching and hard work. So I believe this statement to be nothing more than a cop out......sir". For this statement I got like 100 pushups from my toes which I now know can be done when you have someone shouting over your head to "finish". My instructor isn't the most sensitive to comments given in class - especially from a snot like me. Just a case in point.

Briee (I should add....I do know there are some body types that can't do the splits....and I will NEVER be able to do Yoga }( }( }( }( }( )

I'm glad we understand each other.:) I just wanted to know if other tall people had a hard time doing push-ups or if they were naturally good at them (not if push-ups were attainable for them). But you're right -- I definitely haven't tossed the idea of improving them and I know my hard work will help me improve further AT A SNAIL'S PACE. It's amazing how long it's taken me to achieve the 16 or so lousy ones I can do.

I do agree with your Tae Kwon Do instructor, though. You deserved the 100 push-ups}( :p .
