Could you give me some advice on suppliements that should be taken before and after working out. You see them advertised in all the fitness magazines and its all confusing!

Supplements will depend on the goals you are looking to acheive..

I, for example, take BCAA's before and after my workout for protein synthesis, I take Glutamine after for recovery (both powder forms I put in my shakes, but pills are also available).
I take protein powder smoothie in the blender immediatly upon waking for instant, fast-digesting protien to "break the fast" from sleep (Im obviously looking to build muscle here), also post workout and before bed.

I can't help you in regads to fat burning if you're looking for it, however Ive heard some great things about Biotest (I think specifically its called Hot Roxs???)

I think that the "mystery supps" are best left if you're really *hardcore* on the routines.. just my opinion though..
Im about 3 weeks into Biotest Se7en supps, they are for real hardcore lifters and Im expecting to see some results by the 5 or 6 week..

When I was trying to lose weight a few years ago I actually took the Mega-T (green tea) tablets and I found that they helped-- in conjunction with a strict diet.. so again.. it depepnd on the results you're looking for :)
 
I take the GNC Active Women Vitamin pack immediately before working out. It includes CLA, L-Carnitine, Multivitamin, Calcium, Burn 60. The pack is pretty convienent because each day is packaged separately so you don't have to open a whole bunch of bottles in the morning. After my workout I have a smoothie that I use GNC Wheybolic Ext 60 and Udo's 3-6-9 oil in. Before I drink the smoothie I take another CLA. Then I take another CLA twice a day with a meal. I don't eat cheese or a whole lot of meat so that's the reason for the CLA. I also use GNC meal replacement once a day that I mix with milk. Hope this helps!

The answer depends on your hormones, your body composition, and what you want to do. I take my suppliments before I workout. But, I'm not really trying to build a lot of muscle because my body makes more testosterone than most women do so I'm really only worried about the old fat burning and being able to complete a workout. I like to think of my meals as first and second breakfast. First breakfast is a hard boiled egg with my GNC ultra fish oil, evening primrose oil, and bee pollen (for allergies/energy.) Then I workout (usually cardio in the AM) and after my shower I will eat my second breakfast. For me that is a little oat meal (1/2 cup) with some coconut oil and a protein shake. know you were only really asking about suppliments but for me the food works in with that. Easy to digest carbs after the cardio makes sense your body's insulin receptors are wide open saying feed me!
