Right now I don't have a barbell or a stability ball. Can I just use hand weights for the weighted work? And what would anyone suggest for the stability ball?

Thanks, Jennie

Hey Jennie,
Do you have kids? If you do, do hey have their own ball? If they do, than you could use on of their balls (as long as it's fairly big:) )

Good Luck!

Nope, no kids. But since I work out with the Firm also there coming out with some new videos that include a stability ball. So I'll just wait till then.

But thanks for the quick reply and the suggestion.

I think you can always substitute dumbbells for a barbell. But, not the other way around. Dumbbells give the most flexibility, however if you don't have heavier dumbells than you might not be using heavy enough weights. When you start getting up to 25 pounders they are very expensive and it's probably cheaper at that point to get a barbell set. But, you can work your way up to it. Stability balls are pretty reasonable, they're only about $10 at walmart, and probably worth getting. If you can't get one then just try to make do with your surroundings, your bed or you can use the step as a workout bench.

i only use weights for squats-12 pds on each side. i have noticed that cathe does not go higher than 40 pds on her barbell which i think means 20 on each side? so i would not go any higher than 12 pds. as for a stability ball, there is no substitute and it is excellent for core.

I agree that you can substitute dumbells for a barbell, but that a stability ball is such a useful and versatile piece of equipment I think should be in anyone's home gym.

I resisted getting a ball, then once I did, I almost fell into the TV and rolled down the steps.:) But I survived:+ ! Good news is that TJMaxx, Marshall's etc., will sometimes have balls on sale. I try to incorporate ball workouts at least every 2 weeks or so, especially when I do Cathe's Core Max.

Thanks for the replies ladies.

I don't go heavier then 15's right now for lower body. So using dumbbells I guess would be o.k.

Have any of you bought used Cathe DVDs off Amazon before? Someone has a used DVD of this workout for sale on Amazon, and I want to get it, but I am worried it won't work well. Does anyone have experience with buying used DVDs off Amazon? Any input would be appreciated. :)

I have bought used books and DVD's off of Amazon. You're really buying them through Amazon but from a private part seller. Kind of like ebay but without the auction part. On Amazon, as well as ebay, the seller is rated. Check out their rating before buying the DVD. I haven't had a problem with what I've gotten used on Amazon so I don't know what they will do if you have a problem. Since you aren't buying the DVD from Amazon they might not refund the money if something goes wrong. Your best bet is to check out the sellers rating and ask them if they will refund the money if the DVD is defective.

I don't know if you have checked out the shipping cost or if that is a factor for you, but I've found that the shipping cost is reasonable. Even though you are really buying from a private party, Amazon sets the shipping cost, so the seller can't charge you $10 to ship something that cost them $2.50 to ship like they do on Ebay.

I have bought 2 videos used from Amazon. The arrived very quickly within the week after I bought them, although the website will say it can take a couple of weeks. It was hassle free. Both are great condtion. I would definetly order from there again. It is soooo much easier than ebay.

Thanks for the input, ladies. I am still puzzling over this, as I can't get the seller to email me back. If she can't answer my simple questions, I don't plan on buying anything from her. I've actually written two people and had no response from either. Very frustrating.
