Suggestions on workout shoes ?

Hi,
I am fairly new to the boards and very new to Cathe exercsing. Still figuring what to get for a beginner, getting there with your help.
I have bought so many different workout shoes and have yet to find a pair that supports and yet are comfortable. I went to some good fitness stores and was told to get circuit/crosstraining shoes for aerobics becasue they have the support for lateral movement, and then at yet another store, I was told to buy good running shoes, which I thought did not have support for aerobics and lateral movement?
Any suggestions? Thank you..I also usally get wide shoes.

My favorite brand is Ryka Aerobic shoes. I ususally by mine online. The only activity I don't use these for is spinning.

I recently bought a pair of Freddy shoes and do not like these as much as Ryka's.

I'm curious about how the Ryka's fit. I recently bought the Avias Cathe uses on the new kickmax, and they are wider than I would like. I found the same to be true with Otomix. I don't think I have a narrow foot, but I seem to keep choosing wide shoes! Do Ryka's run wide also? Thanks.

Writer, Ryka's are built to fit a woman's foot...wider in the toe box and narrower in the heel IF I remember right. (I think I read that on one of their shoe boxes.) I have wide feet and Rykas fit me great. They tend to run small. I usually wear a 7 but have to wear 7 1/2 -8 in their shoes. Lady Foot Locker usually carries them if you have one nearby? Then, if you figure out what size, then maybe you can find them cheaper online. Good Luck!

Hi Marsha! Have you tried Ryka's? They run wide in my opinion. They are great for support and are very comfortable for me. I would not use running shoes for step or Hi/Lo because they are not designed for lateral moves. Go try some on and jump around a bit in the store to see how they feel. Good Luck and WELCOME to Cathe's place!!

Hi!

Just thought I'd chime in here with my experience with Ryka's. I have both the Rhythm II and the Enlight II. The Rhythm II's seem to run like more of a medium or B width (or regular width) to me, although they are very comfortable. I have wide feet and they felt like they needed a little bit of "working in" or "stretching out" when I first got them in order to feel right to me. The Enlight II's, on the other hand, really felt like they ran wider in the toe box and were great right out of the box for Cathe workouts and high impact step. I couldn't believe how much better they felt than my usual shoes. So, for those with wider feet I recommend the Enlight II's. I love them! I literally threw my old aerobic shoes out because they felt like bricks compared to these shoes. What a difference good quality shoes make.

Haven't tried any others. I liked the Rykas so much I bought three pair!

Hi Debbie,
Love the little guy (icon) you used.
Thanks for the information. I hvae used ryka's in the past and will try them again. I also measure a 7-71/2 and usually get a size 8. I will head up to Lady foot Locker and see if they have a cross trainer or aerobic shoe. It use to be so easy finding shoes just for aerobics, but it seems they are not made that often. I appreciate all the help. Thank you again:7

Hi Nicole,
Thanks for chimming in. I like what you said about the Enlight 11's. Does Lady foot Locker sell them?
I am on my way to find a pair.

Hey Marsha,

I've had great success with Ryka's and Avia's. FYI, got my last two pair on-line from www.zappos.com. Free shipping and they will beat everyone's price plus give you 110% of the difference if you find a lower price. On their website, you can read the reviews (real people) on all popular athletic shoes and they even give you comparisons to similar shoes/lines. Nothing beats being able to try it on before you buy it--so you have that choice also. Oh yeah, Zappos has a no-hassle return policy for 365 days! Good Luck.

Regards,
Cyndi

Thank you so much Cyndi and attiman for the web sites and the suggestions.
Everyone here has been so nice and so helpful!
I am glad I found this board!!!!

You might want to go to a running store like Fleet Feet and get fitted for shoes appropriate for your particular feet. For example, I have PF, high arches and very wide feet so shoes that fit me and work great might be awful for you or may be good if your feet are similar.

Thank you Colleen,
Great suggestion. I do have one foot that I sometimes have trouble with, so I have to account for that and I usually go for a wider shoe because I do not like them to feel snug. This is so nice that so many people respond. Thank you!

Colleen is right. You need to go to a good athletic store with a knowledgable salesperson who can give you the right fit. I have never been happier with my shoes. What works for some don't work for others.

Hi Marsha!

Forgot to add to my previous post that I took my usual street shoe size in the Ryka's which is 7.5. I ordered the size 8 first because many suggested sizing up, but they were too long and kept slipping. I got all of mine at zappos.com. The free return shipping was very helpful when I was unsure of sizes. I saw the link above where you can get them at a better price. The only reason I didn't order from onlineshoes.com before is that I didn't want to wait 1-2 weeks to get them and the free returns from zappos was tempting me(not sure if online shoes offered that). Also, I needed my shoes right away and my order from zappos arrived two days after I ordered. Couldn't beat the service.

Great suggestions above on going to a quality athletic shoe store to get measured. Every time I buy new running shoes I get remeasured so I make sure to get the best shoe for me. I got lucky with the Rykas! I was so surprised.

Good Luck!

:) Nicole

Great suggestions from so many !
Thanks Nicole :>)
I am leaning toeards orderring the Eykas online too. I measure a 7-7 1/2, so I will go with the 8 and see how that works. I almost alwsy get my fitness shoes in an 8, even though I measure 7 1/2. Thanks again..can't beat all this online help :))))))
