Hello, Cathe!

I was wondering if you could suggest what weight should I start as a begginer using barbels.

I am into week 8 approximately of doing your workouts and am ready to move on...

I will be buying a set of barbells and weights pretty soon and was hoping you could recommned how much weight should I start with.

I know you usually say "whatever its comfortable for you." But I was thinking that maybe you had a suggested weight to start with.

Thanks.

PS: How about the medicine ball? How heavy to start with?

Hi Mommy and cake maker! Wish I could give you a number to start with to make it easier for you but unfortunately there is no set number. I still have to say that you need to focus on what weight challenges you since everyone has different strength abilities.

I know some stores sell barbell sets that allow you to use everything from no weight on the bar to 110 pounds. That would be a good set for you to buy so that you can select what you need and change it accordingly.

As for a med ball, it depends on the exercise. For a cardio exercise I would stay at 2 to 3 pounds for beginner to intermediate and 4 pounds for an advanced person. For core work I would use 3 to 4 pounds with a med ball as a beginner to intermediate but you can use 6 or 8 pounds (perhaps even higher if skilled with a med ball) when more advanced.

I hope this helps!
