Suck in that gut!

I'm sucking in that gut!! I just remember all the challenges these great people are putting out there... No sweets.. no not eating them.... sucking in that gut.. oh yes I am... no caffeine (my personal challenge), tapering down slowly but surely. That great w/o check in that just makes you want to "get it done"!!

Yes, this is the best place in the world. You guys are great!!

I have to say since I've started pilates I've found my core awareness has heightened quite a bit. In fact, I've found myself incorporating it into my normal lifting routine. Like when I do pullups I really use those core muscles more to lift myself up than just my back. It's really cool.

Anyway, the pilates has been great for my posture & I'm always trying to keep that "C" shape, even when I'm sitting at my desk. But I'm gonna try your challenge anyway & see if it makes even more of a difference. :)

I'm happy to see so many people are interested in the challenge! Even though it's "technically" not starting until tomorrow, I've been paying attention more today and found myself sagging! Right now I'm sitting at my desk at work with my back firmly pressed against the back of my chair and my abs pulled in. Anyone looking at me probably thinks I'm a dork! :)

Well then that makes two dorks, b/c I'm doing exactly what you're doing right now.

Cool thread. Thanks.

Awesome idea, Luna! Totally count me in! I heard doing this is the equivalent of doing crunches. I sit at the computer all day and need posture help. I like the post-it idea. If I knew I could get away with it, I'd bring my stability ball to work to use as a chair!

When I think about it during my commute to and from work, I clench my butt cheeks during the red lights. Every little bit helps, right?!?

Angie, sucking it in

I am a gut sucker myself, particularly since I go to the yoga studio. When I told my niece to keep it sucked in, one yoga instructor said we shouldn't and we gave him the "yeah, right" look. I never let her hang when anyone might look at her and say, "Is there a baby in there?" Once you become used to doing it, you just do it, so I say go for it!

Who stole my signature?

I just taped a SITG sign to the top of my monitor so I'll see all day. Now I can sit back, relax, and wait for people to ask "WTH does that mean?" :)

Is your back sore yet? My upper back right between the shoulder blades is a little achy from keeping so upright. What a sad commentary on my usual posture! :-(

yep... Lunacat, you read my mind. I am sitting here with my belly sucked in and my shoulders back and I have to say, it isn't the most comfortable of positions!!

At least we don't have to stand with a broomstick against our backs to keep us upright! Just think, by the end of this, we'll be used to it and it won't be so forced.

Just back from work and saw this.. Good idea, though it will have to be a SITG note, cause in a really busy spot and everyone can see my desk and computer screen (thus no Cathe at work).

I've been sucking in all day on and off. DH asked me if something was wrong when I was doing the dishes..haha I guess I was making a weird face. It DOES make a difference, doesn't it??!! How is everyone one else doing today??

Lunacat! I love that 50's picture of the posture pal. It brought me back to my childhood (much later than the 50's mind you:) ) I was gently conditioned to ALWAYS suck the gut in by my Dear Dad. He was military and ever mindful of standing up straight, he wasn't harsh about it but definitely consistent. He would do things like sticking his thumb firmly into the low back if we were slouching in line for Communion when we were at church. It didn't bother me, it made me feel like he cared and now I'm 43 and people often comment on my good posture which I love. I commend and salute you on the 'suck the gut' challenge.:)

Take Care
