I am trying to build my "at home" gym collection. I want to start to invest in more of Cathe's videos maybe 1 every couple of months but when I watch the previews of the ones I like I don't have a lot of the equipment needed. For example today I am going to go get a bar for plates because its hard to squat over 20lbs w/hand weights and refrain from putting too much stress on my back.

On some ex's I can use my balance ball for chest and for things like one leg step ups I have a high sturdy step bench I got from lowes that works for that specific ex.

A lot of the videos have a step bench that is used and I have shopped on ebay, checked used sports stores and basically its going to costs at least $80-$100 to get a quality step bench.

Does anyone have any suggestions what I can do in the mean time?

Check your local second hand store. I already purchased three steps for only $5.00 ea. All three came with two risers each. I use them when family and friends come over and we can share in an exercise together. It's great fun!

Most of the time they are not there, but perhaps you'll get lucky as I did. Keep checking.

Another option would be a second hand sports store. Out here in the west we have one call Play it Again Sports - loads of used equipment for all sports and exercise.

Thanks. I tried a some within 1hr of me and they have not had any in for over a year. No worries. I will continue to look and maybe Cathe will have some on sale around the holidays. Walmart had the original step bench but it was a smaller one for about $29 and I took it back because I would rather have a bench that is at least 40inches long so I can lay down on it for upper body workout.

Thanks for your help as well on the other posts about video exchange the site led me to another website that has some of Amy Bento's dvds 1/2 for the next week. I really enjoy her workouts. Thx

eBay! I picked up a full-sized (used, but not abused) club step from eBay for $45 including shipping. Half-price, can't beat it. I had to wait for it and watch, but got it after a couple weeks of waiting. I had a max-price including shipping and just sat and waited until I was able to get one.

For my barbell, I was able to find the Wal-mart 100# starter set for $35 at my local Wal-mart.

For a 20# weight belt, I bought a set of ankle weights from Wal-mart for $20. Each ankle weight is 10#. I velcro them together to get a weight belt. Allows me to go heavier on the legs without having to lift heavier dumbbells (before I got the barbell) or go heavier on the bb.
