Substitution for Chinups

Runcrazy

For Disc 2, I don't have chinup/pullup apparatus or tubing. Any suggestions for substitutions for that exercise? Should I do more barbell rows or double-arm rows? (This, or course, is only temporary until I can get a tower!) :)

Hoping for an answer too! I don't have (or plan to get) any pullup chinup equipment either.

Someone had suggested using a sturdy kitchen table as a pull-up tower (laying underneath grasping the edge of your table and pulling yourself up), however, I don't think mine is strong enough.

You could do some push-ups.... [LOL while diving for cover]

O that would not be safe in my house. I am scared the table and me would go tumbling. I am doing Disc 2 today and would love to hear about any subsitutions.

I put a very unstretchy tube with handles over the top of a door, sit on the floor straddling the door, and pull the handles in either pullup or chinup position.

Door GYM for $25.00 .(Its a pulley system). No drilling of any kind required... Worked for me for my first round of P90X a few years ago

If you dont want to buy anything at all then you can do the Heavy Band Pull Downs that Cathe does as warm up in Disc 2. ... Go Slow & controlled & give an extra hold at the botttom of move- squeeze those shoulder blades. This is how I build clients back strength before I have them move to the pull up bar.

Heres another variation of the band pull down http://exercise.about.com/od/exerciseworkouts/ss/backexercises_8.htm

If any of you have Amy Bento's SloMo Series she does some 1-arm Lying Pullovers that always gets my lats really well.

And risk having the tube slide off the top of the door?
I definitely wouldn't recommend this option.

If buying tubing is an option, then you might as well do that, and buy a door attachment as well. I like this one very much: http://www.sissel-online.com/models/580_tda-100.php
