Sorry for the awful title, but it just really fits.
Tonight the Phillies may win and head to the world series. That's a great thing. I'll be happy for them. But on the news today (I live near Cathe) they are announcing increased police presence for potential problems. Things like burning cars, out of control drunken crowds, fighting etc.

What the hell is wrong with people?? Seriously, what the hell is their problem? Our team WON, let's set a car on fire and start a riot.?!?! Our team wins so we vandalize things and hurt people. What kind of mentality is that????
Whatever happened to a nice parade???

I couldn't agree with you more. It's stupid. It's scary. Head-scratching. And when I went to the Rose Bowl to see Purdue vs. Washington, I never once thought, "Wow, if we win, I'm going to run out of this stadium and torch the first car I see as a sign of victory!"

I couldn't agree more with you, this is a part of the reason sports just doesn't "do it" for me the way it once did..it is the utter idiocy of the "fans". While there are lots of people who will be genuinely happy (myself included) if the Phillies win, people like us won't make the news.

Instead it will be the alcohol fueled yahoos grabbing the headlines.

the last major Philly sports team to win a title was the 1983 76ers, I was 20 at the time, I celebrated the championship with a small glass of champagne in my house with my mom and my best friend at the time...that was at the time, and will remain, more than enough for me. If the Phils win tonight, I'll hug DW and go to bed, because I still have to go to work tomorrow, regardless of outcome.

And so it began!!!

The crowds were blocking traffic and fights broke out, a police officer was assaulted, multiple arrests were made. And the game wasn't even in Philly!
I just don't get it :(

Philadelphia fans have a reputation for being rude, crude and socially unacceptable. That doesn't make it right, but it is what it is. How many times have you heard about people being stomped to death in crowds at soccer games in other countries? Or while visiting temples in India, for that matter. I think "crowd" mentality has a lot to do with it.
 
I know the Phillies won

so how was the aftermath . . the news isn't reporting anything. Hopefully they kept it in check.
